Does anyone have any experience with ER Shaw rifles? I am in the market for a new 6.5 Creedmoor for deer hunting. I am looking at the ER Shaw, MRC,Ruger M77, and Savage 16 FCSS. I want an all weather version. I can find info on the others, just not much on the Shaw. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Brett

Here's what I bought when I was in the same boat, and I love it. It's an MOA rifle based on a single factory load I fired through it. With the $100 rebate it'll be a $450 rifle after you pay your FFL. There's not a bad gun in the batch you mention, and certainly not an ER Shaw. It's a nicely refined Savage. I have no experience with Shaw rifles, but I do have some experience with Shaw barrels on Savage actions. Since that is basically what a Shaw rifle is I feel I can comment a little. My experience with Shaw barrels is they aren't any better than the factory barrels that already come on Savage rifles. However, they're a way to try cartridges that aren't offered from the factory and that isn't a bad thing.
If it were me and you want a Shaw rifle, I'd just call the custom shop at Savage and have them put together the rifle in the cartridge you want.

I have a Rem 700 that i sent to ER SHAW to have rebarrelled and trued. It was an old adl .270. I had them put on a 24" Rem mag contour helical flutted Barrell with a Matt finish. Hoping someday to turn it into a .270 weatherby. I am very pleased with the work they did. The rifle is much more accurate than I am.

Here’s my Er Shaw rifle, .243 AI Very happy with it, it shoots every bullet I’ve ever tried in it less than an inch and loves 105 Amaxs to the tune of in the .2’-.3’s

Tom, did you order it built to your specifications or was it already built?
That's a good looking rifle. I like the Mark 4 mounted low like that. I had one mounted like that on a 308, but in Leupold QR mounts for a decade.

I ordered it to my specs and sent them a dummy cartridge with a 105 Amax loaded to where I wanted it and they nailed it on the head. Very happy with Er Shaw

I live north of Pittsburgh (E.R. Shaw is in Bridgeville, PA). They have done nice work for a lot of years.

Nice rifle, but it looks like a Remington and not a Shaw Mark VII rifle. A Shaw MKVII rifle is basically a Savage Accutrigger action of your choice ($490), with a prefit barrel ($250-465) and Boyd's stock ($180-205) and they charge you to put it together. I'm sure it shoots very well like any other Savage that I've owned, but I can save some money and put it together myself cheaper. Or I can buy a long action Savage in stainless steel and drop it in a B&C Medalist for less money, or if I go a short action cartridge I have to step up to a McMillan or Manners stock and have about the same in the rifle as if Shaw built me one of the MKVII rifles. For an all weather rifle like the OP is asking for with a muzzle brake and a laminated wood stock (Shaw doesn't offer a synthetic) you're looking at nearly $1400. My question is why would you go with a Shaw MKVII at that price? It's more expensive than a Montana and about the same price as a Fieldcraft and about twice the price of a Tikka or Ruger in stainless steel.

I too have only purchased a barrel from them. Actaully sent then a Turk M38 and they sent me back a barreled action. Had it chambered in a Sweed, load 120 NBT in front of 39 grs of Varget and it shoots lights out. Working with Chris was very easy

While Tanker8 has made his choice, I have a few comments:
I started using E.R. Shaw barrels long before they retooled around 2000. Before then they did shoot like "average" factory barrels, but after the retooling their barrels became much better. I've had at least half a dozen on various rifles from a Ruger 10/22 on up to a .30-06, and all but one shot much better than average.
The Mk. VII rifles do NOT use pre-fit barrels. The Savage actions are threaded like 700's, and the barrels are put on the old-fashioned way, by facing against the front of the action, not using a nut. I've throughly tested two, a 6.5/.284 and a 6.5/06, and they'd both group three shots in 3"--at 600 yards.

The one barrel I tried to use was in late 2006 just after the introduction of the .338 Federal. I was still working at PRIMEDIA with Payton Miller. I guess I'm just the unforgiving sort.

I would a 6.5-06. Seems like it would be a great cartridge. I’m surprised Remington hasn’t made it a factory offering.

Love the thought of a 6.5-06 AI, but on a more practical side I am thinking ER Shaw MK VII in 280 Remington with 9.5 twist... SS matte receiver, 24" SS fluted sporter weight barrel, pepper laminate wood stock...
