there are 2 criteria for value of anything. what the seller is willing to sell for and what the buyer is willing to pay.

If the soldier purchased the rifle trough the post PX, he could have then sent the rifle home to himself, story could and probably is just as OP has said, Too many on this site want to post BS just to be posting!
