Some info from Accurate shooter. http://www.6mmbr.com/7mm284.htmlThey seem to prefer the 7SAUM and the velocity difference between it and the WSM is only 30 fps with their loads. I favor cartridges that have Lapua available as an option. Another one to consider is the plain .284 gets better barrel life than the 6.5 version. But any of the cartridges mentioned would be good.

Tejano: Thanks. I did see that article previously.

In the Nosler reloading manual #4, you will see loads for the std 280 with IMR 7828 with 160g at 2950 as, "the most accurate load". I shot it for years with the 160g Sierra BTSP, deer flop.
The 280 AI is a dandy, no feeding issues, easy to work up loads for from 120g to 168g that I have tried.

keith: Thanks. Good to know you didn't have any feeding issues with the AI, which I was concerned about due to the steep/small shoulder. Realistically, I'll probably end up with a 1909 Argentine or K98 in either .280 or .280 AI, depending on what I can find when I'm ready.

I always wanted a 7x64 AI for some perverse reason. Or better yet a 7x65 AI in a nice falling block action say a Dakota M10.

Tejano: I've wanted a 7x64 Brenneke for quite long time as well. I'm not really sure why since it's essentially the ballistic twin of the .280 Rem.
Bella1: Received and replied.

I am a huge 7 Saum fan , for me the brass is a non issue as I stocked up on Remmy years ago plus have a ton of Norma , easily attainable. It feeds smooth as silk out of Gen 1 HS Precision bottom metal.
My favorite 7 saum rig started off as a BDL Stainless with a 24" factory barrel. I took it off had it cut to 22" target crown added and out of vanity mainly ( plus a little weight loss) had it fluted and reassembled.
Added a Boyds Featherweight Thumbhole that I ground to fit my hand , cerakoted the Barreled action and worked up some loads with the 140 TTSX and 140 ABs that pump out at around 3k and produce .25 and less groups both behind BR2s and H4831SC ( only neck size) . Neither bullet has the highest BC out there but crush through everything, expand great and always leave an exit which is important to me as I only hold first exposed rib behind shoulder and above heart. I don't like to waste any meat and always want an intact heart for its delicacy alone.
Brass life is great, barrel isn't showing a bit of wear after around 500 down the pipe and I don't expect to ever wear her out as my paper punching and gong tinging days are mainly over , its mostly a hunting rig these days. I really can't say enough about the cartridge though I do often ponder a 7/300 wsm just for giggles and will likely build a 7 LRM sometime in the future.

Strick9: Thanks for the info on the SAUM. That 7 LRM looks interesting as well.

Ken: That would certainly be easier... and cheaper. And equally effective.

I have two 7 saum"s and really like them. If I was starting over I would probably go 280AI , basically same thing.
