The John Wayne, 1969 move. Just watching it on you tube. Classic.

I'm gonna get crucified probably but I prefer everything about the new one. Big John Wayne fan but I just love the 2010 True Grit. True modern day classic, it's a shame it will always get spit on because it doesn't have the Duke

Nostalgia aside, the remake was better in almost every regard, imo.

That's the one scene that followed the original word for word. Yep, followed the book basically verbatim in both versions.

What a bunch of wankers, Jeff Bridges is no John Wayne but does a fantastic job as Rooster in the remake. The shootout scene in The original True Grit is one of the best scenes in any movie ever made. The biggest problem with the original True Grit is Glenn Campbell as Labouef. Matt Damon wasn't any better. Comparing one against the other isn't fair to either picture as they are both great movies.
If ever I meet one of you Texas waddies who ain't drunk from a hoofprint, I think I'll… I'll shake their hand, or buy them a Daniel Webster cigar! How long you boys down there been mounted on sheep? ...John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn
No one could deliver that line better than John Wayne.
The second True Grit was shamefully overlooked for Academy Awards in 2011, but acknowledgement by Hollywood doesn't really make a good movie.

Jeff Bridges kills the remake for me. Just doesn't work, imho.

Cool movie. I watched “field of dreams “with Kevin Costner this week on Netflix. It rocks.

Bridges is a far better actor, and Rooster, than Wayne ever was.
Damon sucked.
All in all, I much prefer the new version.

I couldn't understand a single word Bridges said. Talked like he had a mouthful of chit. Give me the Duke.

I couldn't understand a single word Bridges said. Talked like he had a mouthful of chit. Give me the Duke. Because he accurately portrayed a filthy, stinking, chronically drunk alcoholic. Have you ever seen a filthy, stinking, chronically drunk alcoholic look as cleaned up as Duke's Rooster was in every scene?
