The generals will now start a power struggle, and a new despot will emerge. Zim could be hot for a few years. Openly hating and blaming whites will be a unifying strategy of the various factions within ZanuPF. If nothing else, Mugabe could keep the lid on when he chose to. No clear leader and infighting always creates danger and chaos and especially in an African country with tribal jealousies. I wouldn't want to be Morgan Tsvangirai right now. He is the strongest opposition leader and a political threat to ZanuPF. Mugabe was smart enough to keep him alive, but I'm not so sure about the Shona-thug generals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Tsvangirai

Unless they dig up Cecil Rhodes or Ian Smith, Ns being Ns will continue the mess.

We'll just have to see what happens.
I don't see this as akin to Cuba where Raoul took over and kept the machine running. I'm going out on a limb and say this might end up more like the fall of the USSR.
Reason this might occur is that ousting Mugabe cracks the absolute stranglehold of power that has subjugated that country. The opposition movement has been growing for a decade, and that put cracks in the dam that may now burst open into a free election and some semblance of the Rule of Law, albeit African style.
An example I use for hope is Zambia. They kicked out Socialist dictator and Mugabe/Nkomo friend Kenneth Kaunda and elected Fredrick Chiluba in 1991. Since then, they have had free democratic elections, orderly succession of power, and remarkable economic growth. If Zim can put aside any thoughts of bloodthirsty revenge, I think they have a shot at a future like Zambia.

Another historic moment. Still too soon to tell, hopefully leads to free elections, unfortunately Zim will never again achieve any semblance of prosperity, but TIA.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me!
