It has been a weird last 3 years in the deer hunting woods for me. 3 years ago I didn't see a thing. Nothing! Last year, better. The blame was on me that year. Saw a nice 8 point and missed. I saw more deer but we didn't need more meat so slaughtering a doe just to kill something is not how I work. This year has been better still My step- dad started things off last Monday on the 13th with a 20 1/2 inch 7 point, and I officially ended the drought today with a spike. Its not huge but, Dammit, it feels good to have one in the win column. I am sure other have had periods when this happens and I am glad I got one this year. Ill add pics when I have time to down load them to my host site. Praise Jesus its over!! Step dad's nice one, and my little eater deer. Guns were a Mossberg 30-30 for my step dads, and mine was a mauser in 6.5x55 federal fusion round. Both shot at about 50 yards.

Congratulations. Nothing like getting that monkey off your back. That meat will taste especially good.

Enter the little guy on 'Dinkaton Contest" on the deer hunting thread. Probably to much horn to win but it's fun with all the banter.

Man, I know the feeling of emptiness and frustration. It does feel good when it ends.
It's been a long time since I was skunked but @ '99 or so, I hunted my rear end off and barely could see a deer. After the first 2 weeks of season I had a large lease virtually all to myself. That year I tried every trick in the book. For quite some time I could NOT even jump or smell a deer.
The last week of our season, which is 5 weeks and 6 weekENDS, I thot of a draw between property boundaries. One evening I slipped in and took a seat high on the side of a hill facing the evening breeze. JUST before DARK a couple of Does eased into view feeding. One was facing away and the other facing me. I slowly raised my rifle and she caught the movement. She had that deer in the headlight look, but it was too late.
That was probably the hardest and longest I hunted with no luck till that evening. It feels good when the drought ends.
Congrats

Congrats on a good hunt! This year has been horrible all the way around for me, so I feel your pain. Enjoy the meat.

Congrats man I’ve had those spells and can really empathize with their frustration with a dry spell as well as revel in your relief over it’s end!
Congrats too on a very distinctive buck!

Congrats. No deer for me this year. Did manage an antelope doe. Last year was kind of rough with two trips to WYO for a cow elk with no one in the group connecting.
I know its frustrating, but at least we are still blessed to be able hunt in this country.
