I always told My coworkers that always said at coffee break, when this same subject came up, "oh!!! I'm going to Bob's house when the SHTF!" My answer was always "c'mon! I need the dogfood!" Oh, I'm gonna steal that one.

This thread is funny as fu-ck. You think its funny? Wait until you see lieberals running wild in the streets and running into buildings headfirst to end their suffering because 0 or Hillary wasnt in office to buy our survival. On second thought, you may have a point there.

Get a door handle wired up to a claymore mine. Well, ok that would work once. But wouldn't I just have a big hole in my house after that? Not too familiar with that particular mine, but I think its directional. Point it towards the enemy....not your house.

Not only are they directional, but the Army tried to make them idiot proof for GIs. They actually say, in raised lettering, "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY."

Can anybody tell me if the Directional Claymore door handle mines from Army Surplus have arrows on them so I know which direction to face them?
Something like what is on a furnace filter would work. I figured those out after awhile

Based on such an article I can see why. lol I guess if Murkowski says it's a low priority who am I to believe otherwise? "..In other words, the EMP threat is real, but in today’s world of competing challenges, not a top threat or priority in an age of limited resources." This comment from the article reminded me of my dad picking up some radiation meters(Geiger counters) at a gov. surplus sale, that were being pulled out of all the fallout shelters around the Denver area in the 1980's. He asked the attending "official" why they were being dumped. The reason was the cost of the batteries. Turns out the single battery used was a standard D cell. Goes to show what value the congress critters in DC put on the people who pay their salary.

I am more worried that some nasty person creates a virus that kills wheat, corn, soybeans and rice. Most people are pretty far removed from raising their own food. The US will always be in a dominate position as long as we feed the world but when that food power is taken. Then it will get real.

I would worry more about a lot of things other than an emp. I think I ran out of tin foil... Hm... NK hasn't done schit in the last 25 years except starve their people and launch some chi-com/ruskie/iran tech. Color me not impressed. They'll never even send a nuke-tipped warhead over us or our allies. Test or not. Not going to happen.
It's about like this:
"Do you puff peters?"
"Hell no!"
"NAZI!!!"

It's pretty crazy that 'we' (the vast majority of people) assume electricity. We have been born into and raised with 'power' for enough generations, for the most part, that power is an assumed part of how we live. The back-up 'prepare' generator is a reflection of this.
When, for any number of reasons, TSHTF at some point and human civilization is reduced to existing once again - hey, the earth will be happy again according to Al Gore and his ilk, in spite of the fact that they really don't wish to live like that- but no amount of food or fuel will get anyone by. Those who survive will do so by making it happen. Gone will be the stupid 4000, 3000, 2000, and even 1000 sq ft stick homes in places where heat is required for existing. Look at what worked a few centuries ago. That's what will be working for those who survive.
And whether it was disease which started it all or not, disease will be a 'friend' in defense of marauding hoards. People will die in mass numbers - partly due to lack of medicine to defend against disease, and it will reduce the populations to a point where competition will be less of a factor, though still significant. The mentally unstable will die through intent, negligence on their part, or via homocide. The few who do survive will be the useful ones; 'weirdos' with specific necessary skills (or 'gifts').
If a single continent is affected, things will get very nasty in many ways for many people all the way around. Disease, massive disease, will affect everyone the world over.
Sometimes, the air you 'let in'matters less than the air you 'let out'.
