I would have done more to discourage the bear, and I certainly would have had a gun at the ready. I carry a G29 loaded with 200gr hardcast from DoubleTap when camping. It appears to be a young curious bear rather than aggressive. But by not chasing it away aggressively, the bear is losing it's fear of humans. Most of them are not attacking people, but are trying to get to food in packs or tents. That bear's encounter with the next human may not turn out so well.

Ya, like the black bear can decide you are edible and matter-of-factly proceed to devour you, your actual demise occurring sometime during that process, this being the profile of more’n a few black bear attacks.

I’ll give the guy some props for actually mentioning God, and sentence him to a year of police ride-alongs in any rough urban neighborhood to see how far “trust” will get ya, make him read the classic book “Bear Attacks”, and have him take court- mandated firearms marksmanship and training.

Then he can be turned loose in the woods again, this time properly prepared.

Would I have shot that bear? I’d be reluctant to, especially in a tent for fear of ruptured eardrums. Somebody needs to though.

I'd have ass-shot it with my trusty 600 Dinosaur and then dragged his dead carcass out a few days later with my trusty school bus yellow Uberlaunch...after a friend climbed down the mountain and hooked him up for me and right before a couple of suckers bought some trusts and donated their kidneys. Then I'd have went home and took some sexy pics of my old lady posing in a bikini and posted them before I climbed aboard my (donated) Harley trike and did a couple of donuts.

The next campers that come through and have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the tent are gonna have to deal with a more aggressive bear.

Edit-I may not have shot it outright, but I would have gotten a whole lot more aggressive in chasing it away. Loud yells, a shot in the dirt at its feet, if that failed, than shoot to kill.

That made me laugh.

I have had plenty of encounters with black bears. I would have gotten out of the tent and tried to aggressively chase it off. I would keep my gun handy if I had one along. I think the guy (“gentle” fellow) being so passive is what caused it to stick around. I sure as hell would now have say back and watched it damage my bug shelter and steal my tent whether I had a gun or not.

That poor bear should learn not to play with his food. The idiot in the tent is nothing more than a sandwich in a ziplock bag.

Bear was curious, not aggressive. I would have encouraged the bear to move on, if it didn't leave it would be dead. Stupid to let it wander around that close, chit can turn south fast. Guy was a idiot.

I've had one almost that close when I was in a pop-up blind with my then 8 year old son. He was mostly curious and trying to figure out what was in there. he got maybe 5-6' away and I barked like a dog (a very large and angry one) and he swapped ends so fast it looked like a cartoon. It definitely made me realize I should have put down the bow and reached for my revolver first.

When the dude turned the camera on himself and started emoting, I couldn’t take any more. As said, he's a wannabe Timothy Treadwell.
