Sorry I just fig it was a 336, the rifle is 4 hrs south of me and it been 6=8 years since Iv see it, just trying to fig what they go for. My buddies in his early 70s and has decided to sell some of his rifles as they mostly sit in a safe! he has been on the fire a few times but always seems to get logged off.

If it's a JM I'd start where Tikkanut suggested, but the market has grown soft, so be prepared to drop the price. You should at least get $800 I would think. All you have to do is catch one guy that's been looking for a while and you could get the $900. I'd offer it on the classifieds, big audience here.

This is a Remlin being advertised here and the rifle in the OP IS a Marlin. Apples and oranges in my mind. I believe the actual Marlin is worth (as a used rifle) around $900, while I don't believe for a minute the Remlin is worth over a $1000 without actually handling it to make sure there are no surprises. In my somewhat bias opinion. Remlins have the serial number on the side of the receiver which this does.

CB..........this GB auction shown......rifle S/N begins with '92' on left side receiver......this means..... mfg date is 2008.......before the sale of Marlin to Remington.....some Marlins built/assembled after 2009 may have been assembled in NY from CT parts......beyond that...proof marks will vary......RemLin S/N's will begin with'MR' on left side....the real Marlin will have the 'JM' stamp left side barrel just ahead of receiver... These SS Marlins will usually bring top buck...$1400 is more than I would pay.....especially since I know I paid $500 ish for my new SS 44 in '05......only with I would have bought a pallet full of 'em in 44 & 357 back then.... pic #2....shows 'MR' serial number stamp......too many good ole Marlins out there for me to even consider a RemLin

I stand corrected. I was under the understanding that Remington moved the serial number to the side of the receiver. Any way, I wish I had my early SS 1894 44 mag. Never ran across a stainless 1894cs when they were close to realistic on the price. I have blue of each and I may have them buried with me.
