Just found out they diagnosed my Dad with lung cancer but don't have any details yet. He's 84 years old so we're not sure what to expect. Would like to hear your experience..... frown

My mom had lung cancer back in '91. She was 46 so she was a lot younger. She's fine now.

Good luck to you and your dad, NYH1.

Tell him upfront, and honor his choices. Grasping at straws might prolong his life a bit, but sometimes at an expense of quality of life. Lost my mom to colon cancer, she decided she had enough chemo after two tries and went quickly. Make your Dad comfortable.

Bingo.

My aunt was diagnosed 5 or 6 years ago and is clean now.

Just enjoy the time you have together, make the best of every day.

Hoping for the best for you and yours.

A lot is going to depend on the diagnosis. Lost my Dad at the age of 58 to lung cancer. He was diagnosed with "small cell" lung cancer and he did not make it 5 months. They tell me "small cell" lung cancer has a terrible prognosis. His had spread to his hip bones by the time they found it. He was a smoker until the age of 40 when he quit cold turkey. Dad was in excellent shape so the Dr's treated him aggressively. He was doing good with his chemo but with a weakened immune system, he wound up back in the hospital with pneumonia. With practically no immune system to fight with, the pneumonia and cancer grew like wildfire. He died within a week of going back to the hospital.

I'm sorry to put it so bluntly but the Dr's told mom and I his cancer was "treatable." We both assumed treatable meant curable. Turned out they had vastly different meanings.

Radon gas was the likely culprit in their house. The oncologist told mom she should have the house checked for radon and sure enough, it was extremely high. I wish your Dad and your family the best of luck and will pray for your family.

I lost my 1st wife to cancer. They first found it in her lungs but it was also in her liver, brain, and several other places. They never figured out just where it started. She didn't have any symptoms until it was too late to do anything. She didn't have any pain at all, not even right at the end.
