Made the yearly trek to my favorite place to hunt Whitetails, Kansas. Hunting the first week of rifle this season was slow but managed to connect on a good buck. Took him at 263 yds. with my 7 WSM shooting 168 gr. Berger VLD's. Caught him a little further back off the shoulder than I like as he was slightly quartering towards me. Managed to take the top of the heart off but he still went about 60 yards before dropping. Upside was little meat damage which is good because these Kansas bucks are some damn good eating. Anyway, thought I'd share with you guys. Congratulations on the nice buck. We were out there last week and the deer movement was very slow. Near full moon and warm afternoon temperatures were likely the culprit. Oh well, they will be a year older next year.

Brad, never put a tape to him. My buddy and I guessed somewhere between 16" and 17" as his right inside beam ran even with his ear tip and the left inside beam extended past that ear tip by at least an inch. We did put him on the scale and he went a hair over 244 lbs. on the hoof.

Look at the shoulders and neck on that buck!
One would not need to see the headgear to pull the trigger on a KS deer that sports a body like that.
