That list goes on, but years from now will anyone remember a .26 or .28 Nosler or that Creedmore? Honestly I've shot stuff with a lot of different cartridges and the stuff was always dead at the end of the trail and I couldn't tell much difference with any of them. In my own case I doubled my ammunition cost by going to a 7mm-08 from a .308 or my Fireball and now try to find factory loaded ammunition locally at any price. That 7mm RM has been on the most wanted list since 1962 and has stood the test of time, so even the local Walmart carries ammo for it. Shoot the reduced recoil stuff from it and you have a 7mm-08 equivalent. I know it is as common as a #2 pencil, but that is a strength, not a weakness. Come time to sell that Browning and people know what it is. No Antelope in Eastern Montana is going to show any difference being hit with a 140 grain from a 7mm RM or a .28 Nosler.

In all honesty, I was at one of the local big box stores over the weekend and I was looking for 6.5 Creedmoor ammo and I didn’t find any on the ammo shelves with the other cartridges. So, I asked someone why I couldn’t find any Creedmoor ammo and he laughed at me. He walked me to the end of the aisle and showed me an entire 6’ tall end cap display with NOTHING but 6.5 Creedmoor ammo in it.

There was way more Creedmoor ammo than anything.... including.30-06! .... except for .223/5.56 combined and .308/7.62 combined. He said they sell so much of it they decided to give it its own display.

I’ve never seen that for any other cartridge, ever. The Creedmoor will not only be remembered, it is already revered.

The 6mm was the Creedmoor in question.

I looked at the Hell's Canyon at Cabela's and fell in love with it. I would get the 28 Nosler because I already have a 7mm RM and 6.5 Creedmoor. Look at the 300 WSM, it's 5 oz. lighter, I have 4 of them and love the round. Good luck.

I'd get the 6 Creed myself, but I'm old and don't live in Montana.

From what I understand the 26 nosler is one picky Sumbitch to load for. Because I can't stand picky rifles I'd go 6.5 Creedmoor! Did anyone notice I spelled Creedmoor correctly? 😁

Trystan

Pickiest rifle I've ever had any experience loading for was a Browning X-Bolt in 26 Nosler. Kinda soured me on the cartridge, not that I ever had much interest in it anyway.

Unless you are completely willing to accept exceptionally high factory ammo costs or if you reload as equally costly brass for reloading and the fact that it's a crap shoot if factory ammo as well as brass will be available in 5-10 years for the 26 or 28 Nosler with any regularity what so ever (consider the extreme difficulty finding brass for the WSM and WSSM family of cartridges) I would seriously consider the 7mm Remington Magnum. Brass and factory ammo available everywhere and always, great caliber if you ever decide to sell the rifle. Unless recoil is an issue no way I would choose a 6.5 anything over a 7MM RM for purely hunting rifle.

7MM RM is a superb all around caliber for all NA game animals and is THE most popular belted magnum in history for a reason. Excellent performance and for a magnum, mild recoil. I would only go the 26/28 Nosler route if you are completely wiling to accept all the cost and all the potential issues associated with owning a rifle in a rather exotic and uncommon calibers.

Different Browning catalogs in Alabama? 7 SAUM isn't an option for that rifle.

Lol, I guess so. I read, caliber of choice. Wasn't thinking about being limited to what they offer.

If they offered it the new 6.5 PRC I’d be all over it!

The older I get the less fun I find in heavy recoil and blast.

If the 6mm CM is twisted right it could be a very good choice.

Otherwise I would get a 7mm RM. Recoil is similar to many factory .30-06 loads, less than some. While I've other choices galore, I've killed more elk with a 7mm RM than all others combined.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I had never looked at 28 Nosler ballistics. I just took the opportunity to. That should get whatever job you have in mind done. Keep us posted.
