I've been looking for a donor Rem 7600 pump in 308 or 243 to rebore. I've done a couple up to 358 Win, and thought doing one in 338 Fed would be fun.

So I've had my eyes open looking for a pump to use for this project, trying to avoid buying it new. Used 308 pumps don't seem to show up that often. Even new ones aren't all that plentiful to find. There was a scratched up used synthetic 308 on GB recently that sold for around $460. Then add your shipping and FFL fees on top.

I happened to wander into a local store, and was surprised to see a sign on the counter.
They were blowing out their stock of synthetic 7600's (NIB) for $475! They had one 308 left.
I'm too weak to resist that..... smile

I once had a beater 760 in 35 Remington rechambered to 358Win. Simple job, just use a 308 mag. Worked fine.

All gun looneyism aside, a 308 would work just as well as a 338Federal, esp for deer.

Have several different 308's too.
Rifle looney-ism is indeed the problem. (..that I enjoy). smile

I love my .358 760. Picked it up on GB one evening after a few beverages while looking for a .308 to send off to rebore.

Beater 760s in 30-06 and 270 are a dime a dozen. Havent seen a 308 in a long time.

Exactly, 308 pumps seem to be weirdly absent from the used market. '06s are everywhere your turn.
That's why I jumped on this new in box at $475

Reason I ask is because I have a rotor for the Savage 99 machined for the 358 Win. so I was thinking "Donor 243/308 Win" bored out to either the 338 Fed/358 win.

Is he the man I need to have do the work.?

I do know where a beauty 760, .308 sits on a shelf at a gun show but it’s not donor quality. It’s a damn fine rifle.

He's done a lot of work for guys on this, and other forums.
He specializes in the 35 calibers, and does 338's and 375's too.
Give him a call to talk, usually leave a message and he gets back to you within a day.
He's worked on oodles of 99's.

I bought a one year old 7600 synthetic with a Bushnel scope for $350 in .270 Winchester for a truck rifle and started using Winchester 130 powerpoints and the 130 tsx from Doubletap and was not prepared for the accuracy of these rifles. With the Doubletap ammunition the rifle is easy to hold in one inch at 100 meters. I bought four ten round clips for the rifle and now have a pretty good truck rifle.

The 760s will take heavier loads than expected. Great rifle in 35Rem with 200gr SPs.

I stopped at 3 shops Saturday between central and northern Maine. Not a single 760 or 7600 on the shelf. Used to be racks of them.

In a carbine, no less, it appears.

Guys...I know where a nice 760 is in a 6mm if anyone is interested. It is not in what I would call donor condition...it is a fairly nice rifle with the newer stock style on it. Has a scope, but if I recall correctly it is not a high dollar one. Not an easy one to find. It is at a pawn shop. He will ship. No, I will not make anything off the deal as I really don't even know the guy who owns the shop. I have told him I suspect he could sell it here on the fire and hoped he would sign on, but don't think he has. He has had the rifle for several months and even though he is asking 5 bills for it, I know he will take less and after this long possibly much less. I would consider it, except it is a newer model and I already have 2 rifles in 6mm Rem. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will give you the name and no. of the shop. It is in West Monroe, LA.
