I have Trijicon 1-8 mil/mil red IR, SWFA 1-4 red IR, Leupold 1-6 firedot duplex, Zeiss Victory 1.5-6 x 42 red #60 IR, NF NXS2.5-10x42 red/green MOAR IR.
Having shot animals in low light, past sunset with a green light and a Kahles 3.5-10x50 with a #4, killed deer very first light with victory #60 without illumination on, killed deer at sunset with Zplex in a conquest in short hunted for many years and have seen the need maybe once or twice, I cannot advise you to go buy one. If your trying to buy a 1x scope for a MSR with a steamlight or surefire then i clearly get it, but normal hunting I just cannot say I have been in a make or break situation that a good #4 would not handle, not the ones with the little stubs near the edge of the field but thick almost all the way to the center.
