Yesterday while coming home from wood cutting I spotted a large black wolf! This is the first wolf I've seen in Southern Oregon! The wolf took off running across a meadow, he covered about a half mile in short order! I have been seeing lots of sign in our wood cutting area, they must use the ridge saddle as a crossing! The wolf was as large as any I watched in Alaska!

I have seen two good size wolfs about a week ago while elk hunting here in Idaho, one grey and one giant darkish almost black ... same thing, when they noticed me, they took off running at 100mph and were gone before I could even take a shot.

... when I'm done with the elk hunt, the traps are going up ... glad we are allowed to used traps around here and I already have the wolf trapping permit so I don't have to SSS

Too bad we can't legally hunt them in my state! I thought the same thing about the set up area, if only we could hunt them!

We used to see and hear lots of wolves before hunting opened up on them. Now I mostly see sign. They get smart quick when you start hunting them.

It's amazing how much ground that one covered! I've watched coyotes running flat out before, they were slow motion compared to this wolf!

Isn't that the truth. Saw my first near Choteau, Montana a lot of years ago. It covered ground as if it was floating above it and had been shot out of a cannon.

I spotted this one about 6 miles from a ranch that's had cattle killed! And the fish and game haze them from the pastures! How ever they do that I'm not sure!

I've only seen 1 pack in the past but I've seen plenty of tracks in the so. central part of Idaho. This fall I was hiking in 1/2" of new snow that had fallen less than a hour before. I ran across the tracks of 5 wolves going up a ridge ahead of me. They couldn't have been too far from me.

I saw my first five in the little snake river drainage in Colorado hunting pronghorn this year five miles from the Wyo border. CPW guy I Talked to said, “we have big coyotes here”.

i was thinking our pack had moved on until tracking snow fell. now i am looking over my shoulder constantly when creeping around the place. saw where 3 joined up with a pair at the end of my drive way, 150 feet from my front door. i have deer grazing my lawn all night so it's a matter of time before the dogs or cats pulls one down close. they killed a cow elk 100 yards from the house last year.

OP you don't have to "hunt" them , just shoot them, shovel and shut up.

And you answered: great, in that case I don't need the C-1 tag and I can go coyote hunting smile

They need to open the season in WA soon. There are like 25 packs up here in the NE corner. I have seen lots of sign, and some of it within a mile of my dad's place.

Considering the I-5 politics in WA, I think it's highly unlikely that you'll see a season any time soon. It won' t happen until there are so many west of the Cascades that nobody can keep pets any more.
