I am going on a backpack Dall sheep hunt in Alaska this coming fall and and going through the last of my gear needs and am looking to lighten up my camera that I will take. First and foremost I don’t want to sacrifice image quality as this could very well be a once in a lifetime trip with the way the prices are going. From the specs the Ricoh GR II looks like it would be a great backpacking camera. It’s not overly heavy at 7.796 oz before battery and card. I currently have a Sony a6000 with a Zeiss fe 24-70mm lens that weighs somewhere over 22 oz. it takes incredible pictures but just to heavy. I had looked at buying a lighter lens, but end up not far from the price of the Ricoh and a fair bit heavier. I am not too concerned about loosing the zoom as most shots will be landscapes or closeups. I would also guess this could make one helluva digiscoping rig with the 28mm lens with the Swarovski spotter I will be taking.

Here’s the camera: Ricoh GR II

Any thoughts?
Thanks

The Ricoh's aps-c sensor size should be nice for image quality. Not having a zoom may be a limitation though.
I have always read that the Sony RX-100 models were very good, so they may be a consideration.
I have no direct experience with either as my P&S is a small Canon and the other camera is a Nikon D810 DSLR

I had a GR1 35mm back in the day and it was a fantastic little travel camera. I've wanted one of its digital progeny since introduced. If you go that route, I'd love to read your review.

The Sony RX100 lineup was my other option I was leaning toward. I might just have to get one before my NM aoudad hunt in February and see what I think. Thanks
