South of Tacoma, Nisqually Delta. Commuter train derailed on a bridge going over I-5 just south of Joint Base Lewis McChord. RR car or two on I-5, multiple deaths reported. I-5 closed for a long time.
I have been down I-5 and under that bridge hundreds of times.

If they would have had a “Train Buyback” in Washington, there would be less train violence (JMHO).

I rode that train from Seattle to Kelso 10 years ago. There was no high speed that trip. They were having major flooding all down the coast. I-5 was closed. The airports were closed. Until the day I went, the rail lines were closed but that afternoon they got 1 track opened. We started moving but freight trains hauling in supplies and repair equipment had priority. We spend more time parked on sidings than we did moving. It took something like 4 to 5 hrs to go 125 miles. It was the only mode of transportation moving, though, so you take what you can get.

Word is that some object was placed on the track.

I think someone put some Bitcoins on the track to see if they could make some lucky trinkets, but Bitcoin's got so big lately that it derailed the train.

No.... you didn’t take that train. This was the inaugural run on that line. The old line ran down the coast, away from I-5. Sounds like lots of engineer types knew it was a horrible idea, and said it was just a matter of time. Train was going about 80 mph when it left the track. Drove under that bridge yesterday.... was at the airport in Seattle this morning when it all went down. They’re lucky there was only 75-80 passengers.... it holds like 250+. No conspiracy.... no terrorism... just greedy folks risking other people’s lives to make an extra buck.... and cut 10 minutes of a 4+ hour run.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
