My latest project is a 99c 358 rebore. It had a low comb normal stock, I like high comb stocks for better scope eye alignment. I have a newer, never used high comb stock set for a 99.

With a bit of material removal in the inletteing area of the butt stock, it will be a nice fit. The forearm is the question. It has a loose fit where it mounts into the receiver. A bit of side to side play, and also up/ down. I'm wondering the best way to get a nice fit. Thinking of using some glass bedding material and put release agent on the receiver.

Anyone ever do this? Or have some other suggestions?

Forearm pressure on the barrel is the nemesis of many a 99.

I'd leave it floating if it is not rattling around.

Some people do bed them but I've never been a fan of that on 99s.

It's plenty loose, the forearm i removed from the gun had a very nice fit.
Not dead tight, easy to remore and replace, but no real slop. I'd like to get that same sort of fit.

I can see a slight size difference in the circular protrusion coming out from the forearm. Also in the arc-shaped cut for the thick part of the barrel.

The other option I thought of was making a brass shim ring I could put in the circular part of the receiver that accepts the forearm to take up the extra room.

Short of adding wood, shims, or epoxy, what are ya gunna do? Bedding compound of some kind would allow you to position the wood to mate up with the bottom of the receiver line. Make sure you rough the wood up so the compound sticks to it, and wax the hell out of the metal so it doesn't stick to that.

i will add to Roys WAX THE HELL out of the metal! better yet buy some real release agent and use as much as you think is right then use some more.especially if you try to snug up the tenon around the spindle carrier front.
