Looking to buy one , what’s better straight or angled? Any good recommendations for under a $1,000.00? Ronnie

straight or angled?
Obviously a personal preference but angeled are definitely more popular and some models are only made angeled.
Under $1000? Maybe something used but I don't think there is anything that in that price range that would be worth it unless you buy some Chinese made 2nd tier brand (Vortex, Athlon etc)

I have a Vortex Viper HD 15-45x that I got as a warranty return / apology deal. So far, its actually fairly impressive for what it is.

Have you read this spotting scope review posted here on the optics forum?

I've always wanted something decent after owning a Leupold that I won in a silhouette match years ago that was a complete joke. I can't recall the model or specs, but I sold it not long after. Garbage, unlike their rifle scopes and some of their newer binoculars (IMO). Not sure what they make today, but I just happened to have been studying the market again this past week after always shying away from the price of quality spotters, and I ordered the smaller one in Dougs review post above this morning (Thanks Neil!). From the many reviews across multiple forums, I just don't see how you can go wrong with it. Very attractive price point.

As per Athlon, I was looking into one for my son and bought the Cabela's version as they could be bought at a significant discount during Cabela's sales. Unfortunately, I had to return it as it was very hard to focus and almost impossible to use. It probably needs one of those micro-adjustment knobs Vortex is using.
The glass was OK for the money but definitely not anywhere near the top brands.
Anyway, I end up buying him the Cabela's version of MeOpta HD. Much heavier but excellent quality/value IMO.
