Ok, so I got this beautiful stith mount and all-weather alaskan scope (Thanks Jim!) here on the forum and I was going to put it on my SRC in 250-3000 but now I’m wondering if it should go on my next purchase. This is going to be a pre-war 99H in 22HP. Or is there a better choice out there? I think the Stith is a post war add-on but I really like the pre-war rifles. Thank you for you time. John

I'd put it on the SRC - definitely. If you want a second one for the HP I can help you out

Personally I'd put it on a long rifle vs. a carbine. A 20" carbine carries nice, handles nice especially in tight places. Add a scope outfit, not so much. A 24-26" rifle does a better job reaching out. Add a scope outfit and you go from 100 yds to 200 yds. at the snap of your finger. But it's your stuff, do what ya want. You're gonna anyway.

Stiths don't work real well on the 1899s where the rear sight dovetail is 5+ inches from the receiver ring. You get very little contact with the front tube and the scope body.
Just something to keep in mind...

Good point. (Lightfoot has forgotten more about Stith mounts than I'll ever know ) I hope the "next book" has a summary/cross reference regarding stith setups, scopes, varitations, etc. I only have one mounted up and it's a Kollmorgan 3/4" and it has plenty of contact (~1") on a 1899A 26". [

Pre war R or RS would be my choice, pick your caliber. Maybe a T.

You’re right Mad Dog, the src is in 32-40 and won’t get the Stith. The Barrel Band is in 250-3000 and is one of the candidates for the mount and scope. Confusion is my middle name.

OK then, the barrel band is the perfect candidate.

That's a nice set up, but I'd like to hear more about this SRC in 32-40. Maybe some pics?

Have a nice 303 BB carbine that I had never thought about scoping. Also have a 7/8 Stith and Lyman Alaskan not in use. Think you guys just helped me make a decision. GW

I appreciate the comments! It’s a handy little weapon and the scope doesn’t seem to get in the way.
That's a nice set up, but I'd like to hear more about this SRC in 32-40. Maybe some pics?
Here’s some stuff on the SRC. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...8/holy-schmoly-src-in-32-40#Post12375598
