I wouldn’t change a thing. I have found Pro Hunters and Game Kings to perform well in every gun that I have tried them in. I would give Pro Hunters a slight edge in accuracy.

There is nothing wrong with sierra game kings or pro hunters. Especially at 308 velocity levels. Anyone who says other wise doesnt know what the hell they are talking about.

Great shooting! Personally, I never used anything but 150 & 165 gr bullets in any .308, but I know many folks use heavier. The last load I worked up for a .308 was a few months back. My SIL has a little Mod 700 Synthetic stocked ADL, nothing fancy. He has it for a spare and I worked up the Swift 165AF over Power Pro 2000-MR, safely, for 2750fps! They shot .75" for 3 shots. We are both surprised at the velocity, but that is a powerful combo! So, for grins, you may want to try that one sometime. I myself have always liked sierra bullets with Speer right behind that.

"ideal eastern rifle"
I've found a very similar setup to be pretty much ideal for Alaska as well.

I’ve yet to have a 308 MT that didn’t shoot 180’s really, really well. I run them around 2,630. You can get a 180 in a 308 going that fast? I had no idea. Of course, in my only 308, a Springfield SOCOM M1A1 I'm lucky to get 2600 out of 150gr factory ammo. Gotta love that 16" barrel. The best part is that you don't even have to handload to get that kind of speed. I tested a bunch of factory ammo over the summer, and was astonished to see that my Tikka will do 2,630 fps with cheap Remington green-box 180's. I have a couple of 30-06's that run slower with some 180-grain loads. Even in a short barrel, you may find a couple of loads that surprise you, but you have to chronograph them to find out. Okie John

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Okie John Okie, you're absolutely right... I've chrono'd a variety of 180's over the years and handloads, depending, only slightly best many factory offerings. Factory 180 30-06 stuff is about identical to factory 180 308 stuff, which makes one wonder why bother with the 30-06 unless you handload?

Mr. B, I remember that thread about your "donation" ? ? That's tough and he/they are some SORRY scumbuckets..
First, I haven't looked in the Classifieds or on G B so.....
IF - IF a fellow could find a Ruger 77 UL he'd have a SHORT, LIGHT, 20" bll and they came in 308 W. I had one--miss it--WISH I'd kept it. I only shot 150s BUT it turned up 2900 FPS with them. I Don't remember which powder but I have it in my records.
I know that a 77 UL is NOT a Kimber but you could "prolly" (sorry bout that) have 2 ULs for the $$$. That's NOT putting down the Kimber, honestly.
I think I'll take a look and see what I can find. ANYONE ?
I remember that SLM or Huntsman had a UL in 308. Anyone else?

With all the FFL requirements etc, you would think these guns would eventually show up. Son-in-law had a 700 RUM stolen a few years back and nothing. I guess they stay out of the system. I would have thought the thief would have returned this one if he ever shot it. lol

I read it to mean some idiot will try to pawn them somewhere. If they do, the guns will surface.
I went through the whole cops showing up at the pawn shop where I do my transfers last summer. The rifle was simply reported as "missing" . Further inquiry discovered the gun and owner had hunted in one of the long-name Asian countries hunting sheep. The rifle had to be shipped and didn't arrive when the previous owner did so BATF entered it as missing. Turns out it had arrived but no one went back into the registry and removed the missing tag. I got the rifle back in a day but the moral is - if a gun is listed, it can't be sold to someone else assuming they go through an FFL. Face to face is still not tracked in most states.

My apologies for hijacking the thread for a second, but I love the look of those targets. Would you mind sharing what those are and where they might be available? Thanks!

PM sent. Thank you! they look to be exactly what I've been looking for. I've also loaded up some of the 180 Sierra Pro Hunters for my .308 to see if they'll work in the north as well. I've always just shot them as my rifle tuning load since they've been so accurate. I like the looks of the terminal performance you got though.
