PALM BEACH, Fla. - President Donald Trump is criticizing the U.S. Postal Service over how much it charges Amazon.com for shipping.

"Why is the United States Post Office, which is losing many billions of dollars a year, while charging Amazon and others so little to deliver their packages, making Amazon richer and the Post Office dumber and poorer? Should be charging MUCH MORE!" Mr. Trump said in a tweet.

The Seattle company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. A spokeswoman for the Postal Service said, "We're looking into it."
The 242-year-old postal service has lost money for 11 straight years, mostly because of pension and health care costs. Through November, the service had recorded a loss of $144 million on operating revenue of $12.2 billion.

Trump just said out loud what I've been thinking for a long time.
The profitability of delivering packages for UPS/Fedex is also questionable.

There's no doubt in my mind that they're all playing USPS for a sucker at our expense.

USPOD was emasculated to USPS years ago. Ordered to "recover costs" while having both hands tied behind their backs!

No kidding. Our post office doesn't practice diversity - there's no whites. The tellers spend more imd chatting instead of printing out the postage needed for the package.

There used to be a clock on the wall but it was taken down. Evidently someone long ago complained how long they had been waiting in line so the solution was to take the clock down! Liberals!

I may be mistaken, but I think the general fund takes a significant dip out of Post Office coffers on an annual basis. Our local workers are among the best. Well over half our community has to go to the post office to pick up mail. Workers will have packages in hand well before one makes it through the door.

Just looked up the 2016 data. Costs were 77.2 billion, income was 70.4.

USPS delivers packages cheap enough that UPS drops packages for the postal service to deliver.
Postal was undercutting them buy working at a loss.

The answer to your competitors working at a loss, hire them and make a profit on their work.

Our postal workers are great too but they're rural contractors that pretty much know everyone cept for the post master in our little one horse post office, she's nice too though .......big difference when you go to the city.
Even the three or four workers at the office in Orifino (a logging town of about 4000) are angry all the time. Those in Lewiston (about 50,000 residents) are all full blown ass holes cept for one old guy who's really nice.

USPS, FedEx and UPS all offer pretty substantial % discounts to high volume and/or frequent high priority level shippers. Some retailers pass a portion of those savings on to customers while others don't. Packaging materials cost can add up to quite a bit too even when bought in bulk..

But Amazon is reported to actually lose billions of dollars a year on shipping costs:

Maybe not as "diverse" as some cities.

Try running an organization as big as the USPS with constant interference from politicians and see how well that works out for you.
