Is the FX-II version of the 2.5x Compact an updated model of the M8 2.5x? Or is there other differences other than updated glass and coatings?
I have some of the newer Big Bore 3x, but have never owned an older M8 3x or 2.5x.
I think a gloss M8 2.5 heavy duplex would be neat on a Savage 99 358 project I've been working on.
Or ordering a gloss version of the newer 2.5x.

Optically they are very close, to my eyes. The M8's were friction adjust, the FXII's are click adjust. I've had good luck with both variants.

I don't see a gloss version of the FX listed, but I'm thinking that may available with the Custom Shop.

I've never owned the 2.5X scopes mentioned. But I have owned the older M8 or M7 3X, and now have the latest 3X, the Dangerous Game Scope as it's called. The image on the new scope is noticeably sharper. But, that might be because I bought the scope used, and it was used/cleaned a good bit on several rifles and one very light, slug firing shotgun over the years. Image quality will degrade over the years from even the best cleaning methods I'm told. BTW, it never failed to hold zero, even after 250 plus rounds of magnum class rifle slugs fired through a light Ithaca 12 ga. pump.
You might want to try contacting Phil Shoemaker about these scopes. He has used them a lot. E

I called the Leup Custom Shop, and sadly they do not offer the 2.5x in a gloss finish.
