Had one in 7-08, sent it to JES and re-bored to .338 Federal. Came back at 5.3lbs. Was and is a super shooter topped with Talley LW's and a Swaro Z-3. Plenty accurate out to 350 yds with 185gr TSX's and with 200gr Fusions. About ~ 4.5" group. Just what I was thinking of doing with a 308 LWH, either in 338Fed or 358 Win. Do you have the blue/wood or stainless/syth model?

Does anyone know without me calling if Savage's custom shop would snap one together in 250 Savage? I am thinking SS/Syn.

I have 2 of them. One in 223 and one in 308. Both shoot very well with a variety of different ammo. Really great utility type rifles and very light. I own Coopers, Kimbers, Weatherby's, several different customs, and I usually grab the Savage's when I go hunting. They just get the job done and you don't have any problems using them in rough conditions where you might worry a little more about a more exspensive rifles. I do also like the Tikka's for similar reasons as the Savage's.

I have a Savage Axis Camo which I bought in 243 caliber. I bought an E.R. Shaw barrel in 250 Savage for about $137 from MidwayUSA and had a gunsmith buddy switch out the barrels. I had to buy a 22-250 magazine to make the rifle feed 250 ammo. Since such barrels are currently unavailable from Midway, I would order one from Shaw. I ordered a 257 Roberts barrel from Shaw in Savage factory contour and had it screwed onto another Axis action. Both shoot very well. Both are 24" long.

I emailed them last year and they said they could make one in .250, I don't remember the exact price but I think it was around $800 - $900

I have one in .308. It isn't a tack-driver if it heats up, but it shoots factory ammo right around 1-1.25 MOA out to 300 for me. I have a Weaver Grand Slam fixed 4.75x on it in Talley lightweights. Under 7 pounds with sling and loaded doesn't suck.
The stock is kinda flimsy, but for how I use it, it isn't an issue.

I elk/ mule deer hunted with one for a few years in 308. The plastic trigger guard broke, the plastic magazines blow, the knob on the bolt always was jabbing me in my spare tire, I am right handed but pack the rifle on my left. The action was as smooth as aturd in the punch bowl. I got a dodgy shoulder from too much pregchecking cows and dragging green pack mules uphill. Even though it was very light my shoulders hurt worse packing that thing than any rifle/ carbine I tried. Me thinks it is because it is so small the angle of the sling is funny? Traded it for a BLR........good trade.
Just had to send the BLR for trigger work.......GREAT TRADE.

I have one in .308. it weighs what it was advertised at. while it isnt quite as accurate as my other Savage bolt gun, it's a helluvalot more pleasant to carry on the mountain. mine has a preference for 165's over 180's. most 5 shot groups between 1.0 and 1.5". Good gun, and I'm okay with the sacrifices (plastic parts) in order to save the weight. if you want metal parts...... just order the heavier version of the rifle.

would be an excellent package for a .250 savage I have said the same thing. That rifle begs to be chambered in 250 Savage.

Mine shot really well from the bench. I replaced the stock because I wanted something a little more rigid from shooting sticks before I took it hunting. I put the stock on about a week ago so I still need to shoot it but it looks pretty. With the laminate, it weighs 7.75 lbs as pictured which is light enough for me. Mine is a 308.

I've got one in .243. It weighed in at close to 6 lbs out of the box. I bought a Wildcat M70 stock for it, bedded it in, converted it to a blind mag and swapped out the bolt handle for a lighter fiberglass one. Now weighs 6 lbs with a Leopold UL 3-9, shoots about an inch with 80 gr TTSX, and is a real handy little rifle. I like it. I've got a McGowan barrel for it in .284 win I haven't got around to screwing on yet - originally I'd thought to rebarrel it and leave it, but I'm liking the .243 for a deer/antelope/varmint gun. So the current plan is to make it a switch barrel - .243 for smaller stuff, .284 win for medium game, and I'll pick up a short barrel in .338 fed as a bear stopper at work.

I’ve got pics of my 16 LWH 243 on a postal scale w/Talleys and it’s showing 5# 15oz....I’m guessing 3oz for the Talleys, so 5#12oz, and I like them better than Remington M7s....and I’m not a huge Savage fan, by any means. I think mine is SPF local.

It looks like a great rifle... for someone else. I don't know if I could enjoy owning it like I should.
Had a 110 in .270 that gave pretty much everything you'd expect from a utilitarian standpoint. But I could never love it.
I'll never say never though. Maybe for a knockabout .223 it could work. The size, weight, and twist is close enough. Some splatter paint might be a positive distraction.
