Anybody loading these in your .270 win?

Been helping a buddy do some loading, we have them shooting around 3/4" @ 100 yds out of his custom 270 win, him and his wife shot some antelope in Wyoming this year he said they work well, they seemed a little more fussy to get a good load than the TTSX's I"ve used in mine ,not sure if it was just his particular rifle!

I finished my load work up for the 129 gr LRX and have taken 3 white tail deer so far. I shoot a Thompson encore with prohunter 28" barrel.
I load RL 19 at 58.5 grs. which is below max. Chrono velocity 3,300. Accuracy is .58" 100 yds. Last deer taken was 242lbs 9pt, at 175 yds. Very impressive terminal performance, minimal tissue damage on exit and mush between entrance and exit. All three deer collapsed in their tracks.

I found they do open faster and easier than ttsx, but yet retain all weight

Used them in Namibia three years ago. The R17 load gave 3075 in a 22.5” barrel. When I got them to around .70”, I loaded some and got on the aircraft. Terminal performance very good. Went to TTSX because the hollowpoint is larger.

RL 26 looks good...at least on paper

I'm loading 76 gr RE 26 with that bullet in my 270 Wby - 3520 fps and 3/4 MOA consistently...

I just looked up RL-26 on the Alliant site with 130gr. bullets for the Bee. They MAX around 72gr.! Is their load "Lawyer Proof"? It seems very whimpy to me!

I have been loading the 130 TTSX with RL-22 and am getting so-so results. I may give RL-26 a try.

I did see the Alliant data, but with previous load work with RE 25 (and based on John Barsness' results), I felt safe working up to similar RE 25 levels. I believe John has gone to 78 gr RE 25 in the 270 Wby (I stopped at 76 when the Magnetospeed said 3522 and accuracy was as good or better than any other load I've shot in this rifle).

I haven't had any pressure issues, but just punched some numbers in Quick Load and am a bit shocked:

72 gr RE 26 with the 130 TTSX shows 67,310 psi and 3463 fps, whereas 76 gr shows 82,405 psi and 3644 fps. Adjusting the charge weight to 73.3 gr gives 71,860 psi and 3522 fps matching the velocities I'm seeing. Using 76 gr RE 25 which I've shot quite a bit gives 78,756 psi and 3588 fps. As I recall, that load chrono'd around 3550 fps in my rifle (26" Wby Mk V).

I'm taking the Quick Load results with a grain of salt because IMR published data for the 130 Nosler Spitzer shows 76 gr IMR 7828 as max at 53,000 cup and 3500 fps, whereas Quick Load gives 80,706 psi and 3641 fps for that combo. I'm not sure how to correlate cup and psi as far as pressure goes...

I've loaded 76gr. of IMR-7828 behind the 130gr. TTSX but didn't get a chance to chrony them. Primers showed no signs of pressure and the fired cases fell out of the chamber. Accuracy was about the same as my RL-22 loads.

I wish I knew someone that had some RL-26 on hand!

Quick load does not work very well with weatherby cartridges

Any theories why Fotis? Possibly the free bore?

QL is definately off for R26 so if it has glitches for the Whetherby and R26 you could get way too hot.

QL is set up with R26 slower than R25 which it has not been in anything I have tried it in. Also the top charge can be the same as with the 270WSM and 140s or as much as five grains less for R26 than R25 for max loads.

The free bore would be my guess as well. Not familiar with running Weatherby’s but I know QL uses COAL and I’m assuming they correlate that to SAAMI specs for the chamber and pressure. My guess is that the free bore of a Weatherby would significantly reduce the pressure numbers that QL is estimating. Just a guess though. However my QL data for my 280 AI is fairly close as far as velocity with other powders. I have yet to chrony my RL26 loads though so it will be interesting to see how they compare.
