Took the new Savage 10FP in .308 Win. to the range today to try it out. Loaded up 150 gr. Sierra RN over varying loads of Rl 15. The best 5 shot group was just over an inch. I pulled the last shot on that group and the first four shots measured .375". I was really impressed with the accuracy of it. I shot 30 rounds through it in the space of 25 minutes and the barrel never even got real warm. The trigger is really sweet. No creep at all and must break at about 3 1/2 pounds (didn't have a trigger pull scale). Tried it out at 275 yards and shot a 3" group with winds gusting from 15-30mph. I think it will only get better as the barrel gets broken in and the weather conditions improve. If you want a tack driver for a decent price, this is the way to go. The most accurate load was 44.5gr. of Rl 15. If any of you have any good accurate recipes for .308 with a 150gr. please let me know. Rick

If'n your gonna punch paper some HPBT's will shrink your group and cut the wind better than those round nosed meat getters.

I just had 1/2 a box of old bullets laying around (1 of about 20) and thought I would shoot them up. Rl 15 seems to do well in the .308 now that Rl 12 is in short supply. Will probably try some W748 next and see how the rifle likes that powder. I read a post on the reloading forum where somebody said a 1/2 grain difference in powder won't make much difference in accuracy. I think he is way off base as I work up loads a 1/2 grain at a time. It always seems you find one load that shoots really well and if you go up or down 1/2 a grain the groups start to open up. That was the case yesterday. It seems to me that the point of reloading is to get the most uniform ammo possible including charge weight. Rick

I agree with you Rick, 1/2 grn. has always made a difference in my loads. If you like RX #12 as much as I do, go to Widener's reloading supply. They might still have some. I think that I bought all of the 1 lb. cans , but maybe they still have some 5lb. cans. Mark.

I'll have to check it out. I tried to get some 12 but it is getting hard to find around here. Every once in a while I find a can of it at some sport shop. I can't complain about the accuracy I get from Rl 15 though. It is a very good powder and really meters well. It looks like it may be some time until I get to do some more load development. It was 15 degrees today with a wind chill of -10. Awfully hard to shoot good groups when you are shivering. Supposed to be cold for the next few days. Now if we could get some snow I could get out and do some coyote hunting. Rick
