I have used 34.1 grs. of 4064 for years and the only thing that will compare with it would be Vitvouri N140. In conjuction with either of the powders, I have shot various brands of 55gr. bullets and ended up using Sierra's.

A classic load for the 22/250 is 35grs. of IMR4895 with a 52 - 55gr. bullet. I've shot this load for years in several Varminters. Velocity runs right at 3550 - 3600fps.

I'm sorry to hear that you have gotten to old to carry your varmint rifles. I have five or six, one weighs 14 pounds, but at 68 I'm still able to pack it to the shooting bench.

One option would be to hire a gun bearer as they do in Africa.

JBledsoe I am only 29 not that old yet, but knwo what my kimber can do and just saw no reason to lug a 10-12# gun for what i do, of course Wa isnt renowned for our prairie poodle colonies either. if so my varmint arsenal would look a bit differnt

Hope you didn't mind a little kidding. What area of rainy Washington do you live? I have a son in Oak Harbor but that is most likely north of you.

Our varmints are mostly ground squirrels. About the size of large rats. They live in open desert so range is limited only by the rifle. We set up in one place and shoot all afternoon so weight makes little difference. If I had to pack my rifle very far I ,too, would be concerned about weight.

jim I am all for a little ribbing and didnt take any offense i assure you. I am in the puyallup area close to tacoma so yeah your boy is north of me an hour or so. we mostly shoot coyotes but have a few ground squirrels ot shoot as well if you can find a colony, we have a few we shoot.

According to nosler right around 3600 fps I'm using 4064 right now, but considering making the change to 4350 myself. I have a Savage model 12 and get under 1" groups but I think it can do better.

so you have a thirsty 223 equivalent load...

with several powders the 223 will hit that velocity with roughly 25 grains of powder...

Sounds to me if your rifle isn't accurate with a lot of other powders... you need to play with seating depth..
I think you are seating the bullet too deep...

also wonder about throat erosion...

I've used 4320, 4064, W760, H380, and Varget in the 22-250. All worked, with the fastest and most accurate load being Varget with a 40 grain bullet.

I used IMR 4350 when I had a 22-250, plenty accurate

H-4895 always did the trick in .22/250s with 55gr. bullets. With lighter bullets, I liked Varget. Velocities were at the top, too. I wouldn't mess with either 4350 in that case. My favorite load turned out to be a max charge of Varget and 50gr. V Maxes, they hit 3900fps and put a hurtin' on prairie dogs. You could hear the "WHOP" in the next county......................

Back in the day, I used a lot of IMR-4350 in the 22-250. These days, mostly CFE223 for the extra velocity. I may switch back to IMR-4350 when my CFE223 runs low, I'm still sitting on 10 lbs of the stuff. :-\

I just loaded some with that very load. Honady 55 gr sp and 38 grains of imr 4350. Winchester lr primers. Have not shot them yet just got done loading them. My old load was 35 gr of imr 4064 and it shot a little under an inch, but hoping these ones might perform a little better. Velocity isn't everything to me, accuracy is more important to me, i'm still way above a .223 rem.

I loaded 39 gr of IMR 4350. Accurate as hell, there are faster powders, but the 4350 worked well. I use it Creedmoor loads too.
