After shooting 3 times at a respectable deer yesterday and not cutting a hair, had to redeem myself since it was all me and nothing to do with my Steyr!!!

Me, Robert, Val, and Mike headed fer a hike and got into a great area... was up the tree by 1415 hours or so. Had trails all through the area and alot of hawg sign. I saw a doe running full blast about 300 yards then she disappeared. She popped back up and another doe was with her running. They split up and then my buck came piling out! He was on a mission to get one of them gals. He got to about 200 yards and then made a U turn!!! Called him back with Val's Old Crow grunt... This was about 1440 hours He came back and found the doe that ran closer to me and about 150 yards I let the Steyr 300 WM feed!!! He jumped and ran about 30 yards behind some brush. As he slowly walked I could tell he was hit, he stopped and I gave him a neck shot to seal the deal! Dropped in his tracks! 300 WM didn't go all the way through his neck though??? I got down and put hands on him, then hung my orange over him so I could find him later! My home made deer cart sucked and wasn't used!!! Thanks to all the guys fer helping drag him out the 600 yards!!!

Check station stats: 122 lbs gutted, 4.5 years old, 7 point, 19.5 inches Finally got the monkey off my back and truly appreciate all the help and prayers from the PFF family!!!

The pics aren't showing, but I'll go ahead and congratulate you anyway. Good public land bucks in the southeast are a real trophy. Folks that have never hunted down here can never truly appreciate how difficult it is to score.

Probably to light of a bullet RE the neck issue. 300s are made for 180 plus bullets. For some reason folks like 150s... Never figured that one out.

Or it was a Sierra game king bullet.

I'm using 180 core locks....kinda odd but it did the trick anyways. I'd never do 150's, I like the punch when I pull the trigger....hahaha

A lot of guys stopped hunting altogether or given up hunting Public Land.

The pictures probably show up for you because you own them ... it's your photobucket account. I don't think anyone else can see them.

I'd like to know how exactly you missed with a steyr.
Do you have your scope on backwards?
I can't even target shoot with mine during deer season without bullets going flying into the woods and killing deer indiscriminately.

One of them odd deals that could never be explained!!! All 3 of my Steyrs are killers, that buck the other day just had some good mojo I reckon.

Kinda stupid.....there are no direct links to attach images! I went to the misc forum and did what it said and it posted something that looked like a thread with micro pics you could click on and enlarge. Photobucket sucks but I have a bunch of pics on there, I reckon I need to seek some other kind of photo sharing site but still doesn't look like it would help here....????

Nice trophy, man! Those deer are TINY down there. 122lbs gutted? Shiit, that's a 'gear over one shoulder, deer over the other' situation.

Yeah a good "mature" buck down here might tip the scales at 160, I've killed doe in other states that weight 130+..... At the house, I feed em protein but then all my neighbors benefit from my cost!!!!
