In my opinion, there's a right and a wrong way for a man to speak to his neighbors. Reading your posts here, you come across as an [bleep]. I expect that was the feeling the neighbor got from listening to you as well. I'm not defending him, but I'm saying it is possible you share some blame for this adversarial relationship. You don't have a fuggin' clue WHAT I sounded like, since you weren't there. In this state, you are within your rights to destroy a dog on your property causing damage. Or even threatening to. My manner was mild with this guy. I was trying to do him a favor by giving him a chance to corral his dogs before they got killed. No good deed goes unpunished. Yet another example of a guy I wouldn't want to live near. When two [bleep] meet, it is usually entertaining. You did threaten to kill the guy's dog. He threatened to kill your dog. You said you haven't seen the guy's dogs anymore. I expect he'd appreciate not having to dodge yours in the road. Were I you, I'd beg a moderator to remove this thread immediately. Evidently you don't know Barry very well. Barry would be the last source of trouble... But this site has a way with bringing azzes to the top. I"d live next to Barry any old day.

I had the neighbors dogs (2) chasing my boys 4 H lambs. I killed one and sent the other limping for home. Case closed. They have kept a little closer eye on their dogs since.

Most people understand that there's a huge difference between a dog owner who doesn't give a shidt if his unsupervised dog is killing wildlife and chasing livestock on another person's land and someone who is working directly with a puppy that is causing no harm. Some people are just damn dumb enough to parade around the fact that they don't see a difference on social media.

Thing is, if he does, he'll be arrested and go to jail for it. (From a legal standpoint.) If he hasn't the cop needs to tell him that, it just may curb the whole problem.

If he is really trying to kill your dog I'd get a shock collar to try and tighten him up a little bit. I like this idea, but how are you going to get the neighbor to wear the collar? I'm sure RBB can handle that end of it.

I've said nothing here that I didn't say in the Sheriff's report.
Why would I hide from anything when the law is in my favor? Some folks are just scared of their own shadows.........

in my area, dogs killing game animals or livestock get shot on sight.
dogs not hurting anything generally get left alone or helped
Guns don't kill people, drivers with cell phones kill people.

Geez, the man goes out on a limb, to talk to the neighbor, before killing dogs. Just like we do. I HATE having to shoot a dog. Its not the dogs fault. Really should shoot the owners instead but there are laws...
So you go to the neighbor and explain. Like we do. Hey, dog is always over here, doing this or that, can you work with him or pen him etc... and if the dog then only shows now and then I"m good.
But if the neighbor doesn't care and then goes OUT of his way to kill your dog thats not "trespassing" or doing harm, there is something wrong with that neighbor. Just as wrong as with all the idiots that think Barry is nuts or wrong.
I'm not one to shoot on first sight. Just not the friendly way to do things. Especially with a collar. Though dogs are worse on deer than our yotes are.
Used to be this time of the year we called it cabin fever with stupid posts. Not sure what to call it now.

He's the one that doesn't want advice. He does want to know what WE would do, unless it's not what HE would do, then he doesn't want to know. Try and keep up! Sycamore

Well, you did tell him you always have control of your dogs. He's an azzhat...but you have to live up to your claim.

Borrow or buy a shock collar. Tie your pup up close to the road , not so close he can walk into it. Wait till a car comes by and burn him a bit. Repeat this for a few times different days and this should have him staying away from cars.

I think that it is interesting that such a large portion of "neighbor" disputes center around dogs.
Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

Chances are if you have to say something to a neighbor about a dog, that person won't do a damn thing about it. I have personally never had any luck at all having a nice talk with a neighbor about their dog barking, [bleep] in my yard, running loose, getting in my garbage and jumping on kids.

in a situation like this, I always want to consider the other guys view.
you don't know what happened with the druggie daughter. her choices have probably weighed heavily on the man, and likely, he'd like to take that frustration out on somebody.
something like this needs time and some relationship building.
I'd recommend either:
1. trying to avoid the man at all costs, or 2. next time you see him, flag him down and try to be neighborly. explain that he and you got off on the wrong foot, that you don't like that.
most problems can be resolved with humility and understanding the other persons point of view.
very little of that takes place on this forum, though. Godspeed in your path forward.
no dog is worth going to jail, or court over, IMO.
