Big deal. They'll close Jellystone park for a week or 2. As long as my SS check is not late, I don't care. If the government is shut down, they can't spend our money.

WildWest,

Fyi, during the last "government shutdown", a large group of WWII combat veterans arrived in DC at the WWII Memorial to find it "closed" & "blocked off".

According to the hostess who was escorting the group, the "antique GIs" promptly pushed aside the barricades & said to the posted NPS police officer, who was to "keep intruders out", that, "We're not intruders., We are WWII veterans & were ARE going inside, as we planned."

One of the GIs, who is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the USN, said, "Sonny, you ain't big enough to keep us out of our memorial."

Thereafter, the NPS guy said, "I'm just following orders from my superiors."

The old Master Chief responded, "I understand. You should call Barack ODUMBO & tell him that a retired Master Chief, USN said to, 'go pound sand.' Would you like my name & service number?"

Without another word, the whole group entered & enjoyed visiting their memorial. = NOT another word was said to (or by) the 100 plus veterans.

Truthfully, when I heard about this "confrontation", I truly LOL.
(I can close my eyes & hear my "promoted to Glory" uncle, who was a WWII Navy PO saying the same thing.)

yours, tex

Anytime democrats don't get their way the common citizens have to be punished,
for their own good....of course.

Unless Congress allows the shutdown to go on for several weeks or months, older Americans SHOULD NOT see any major impacts on their Social Security or Medicare benefits.

Since Social Security is a "mandatory" program, your benefits should go out in full and as scheduled.

Since Medicare and other federal health programs are "mandatory" as well, your benefits should not be affected.

But they (congress) still gets paid.

Everyone gets paid in the end. No one loses any money.

Understand. But they and their staffs should not receive paychecks during the shutdown.

They should have money taken away from them for not doing their job in the time they was suppose to do it.
Their penalty should be No Pay for the Year when they can not agree on a budget and shut things down because of their stupidity.

As long as the Food Stamp cards work.

I'd pay to see their faces on camera if the cards started getting rejected though.

[quote=AcesNeights]I was kicked off federal land duck hunting back in the ‘90’s. I’ll be hunting the same spot next weekend and won’t be leaving this time. [/quote

I remember that 90's shutdown. My wife drew a Wyoming moose tag in area #15 and to get to it you had to go through the GrandTeton checkpoint....It was closed. 300 mile trip for nothing. By the time they got the shutdown over with, there wasn't a moose to be found. We had a dandy bull scouted, and would have gotten him for sure on the opening, thanks Newt you sockkukker.

During the 2013 shutdown, no federally managed lands were closed off to the public...at least not around here. I never heard any rumors that they would be either...except maybe the parks, which are supposed to remain open this time. I am sure there'll be all kinds of off roading in the WSAs and wilderness areas with no law enforcement, but oh well. I think some of the campground facilities were locked in 2013 (since no one was available to maintain them, such as pit $hitters, etc.) but that was it.

I killed a bull elk on US Forest Service land during that shutdown...there certainty was not any signs or radio announcements saying I shouldn't have been there.

So everyone supports a government shutdown as long as they aren't inconvenienced themselves.

Got it. whistle

why, there's likely be a riot if the federal payroll recipients didn't get their dole. dole is an English word, i think.

high theatrics, and the demo-publican consortium continues to bedazzle us, through the mass media.

if people will just keep working and paying their taxes, everything will be ok, for you and for me.

a tax holiday is in order for every single worker, and company when the gov't is down?

Trump should be saying that if there is a shutdown, he will use that time to scrutinize the non essential services, and will be making large permanent cuts to the number of federal employees. Maybe give a speech where he heavily quotes Reagan regrding the air traffic controllers. That should get the unions calling the Democrats in a panic.

until individual taxes are cut to the bone, then everything else is just a bunch of bauble. taxes fuel this gov't debacle, as the congress members fight each other for air time to speak with the tax payers. a lot of folks in congress should be dismissed, sent home, and special elections held.

They ( Obama) shut down every thing they COULD that would inconvenience sane Americans. God bless you if you are far enough off the grid for nobody to GAF.

If anything comes of this, it will be hung around the democrats' necks because of the DACA debacle. How they attempt to defend the exposed fact that they care more about illegal aliens than the U.S.A. shall be a sight to behold.
When the media discovers this, they'll stop reporting on it.
