He should meet with his lawyers who should warn him that Mueller is going to try to trip him up and get him on false statement charges. Mueller know that's all he has left. Trump should answer the question of why he fired Comey as such. For a variety of reasons I lost my confidence in him and trust in him. As president of the United States, that's all the reason I need. He doesn't need any reason, just like anyone's boss does not need a reason to fire an employee in most states. But particularly concerning the POTUS, everyone serves at his pleasure and discretion.

Id like to see tweeting about how this is an illegal investigation because Russian collusion is not illegal without having paid them to try and subvert an election. Also, its illegal when the investigator has a previous friend/associate involved. Trump will be examined by Mueller's team whether Trump likes it or not. He can decline, but he will then be forced to testify before a grand jury pursuant to a subpoena. He can have his lawyers attempt to quash the subpoena, but no president has ever been successful attempting that.

Nixon used it to not have to tesify to Congress in Watergate. Those were both real crimes by the presidency that no testimony was forced upon them due to executive privilege. He's the subject of a criminal investigation. He will answer the questions posed to him or he can plead the fifth. But he can't refuse to sit for an examination.

Executive privilege is something that the president can invoke to prevent others from testifying about conversations with himself and it is narrowly construed to include conversations relating to policy or strategy to further policy. That's it. It doesn't apply to this criminal investigation at all. Not one question by Mueller will have anything to do with policy.

Trump will testify one way or the other. The choice is his. Voluntarily or pursuant to subpoena.

The POTUS, like every other citizen, is FREE to show up, if supeoned, & say NOTHING at all.
(I'm not even sure, that unlike here in TX, that a federal court will require the person to give their name. = There's a SCOTUS decision from the 1890s that allows a witness, who is "subject to judicial peril", to REMAIN SILENT & SAY NOTHING. - The Court found that "Freedom of Speech" includes saying NOTHING whatever.)
