Someone here local has the following for sale.

.458 Win Mag. Like new in the original box. Only fired 5 times.

.338 Win Mag. Beautiful condition, with scope rings. No box.

.270 Win. In excellent condition with original scope rings. No box.

What is an appropriate price range ? I do not know how old they are, or how the furniture looks.

Thank you Coop, he's asking just a small amount under those figures. I've emailed him asking for photographs.

Owl. Are you looking for a specific caliber or just want to have a Ruger #1? I have a few that are doubles that I'd consider selling. If you're near enough to Tucson to want to take a look PM me.

Owl,

I would counsel in those calibers with decent wood, one might not want to put much more than 600-700 in any one of them.

My area will not support anyway near a 1000 dollar No.1, the ones I see sell are in the 500-700 range FWIW Your area may be more favorable for No.1 sales than where I live.

Trade in value in my area will probably be around 400.

So if one really calls, I would again counsel to be able to keep it for a while; as resale could be softer than one would think.

These could be considered donors by some, donors are bought without the barrel sorta speak for semi-custom builds. Wood will influence value some, have to watch on rare occasion for salt though on some of the more beautiful stocks/forearms(earlier models)

redz06,

where is your location? You profile does not give a clue. Your post same, no clue.

I would like to know where I can find those $500 to $700 No1. No sarcasm intended. But, city/state actual shops to peruse. Because around here (you see my profile?) it says New England, 7 states, you will not find any No1 for significantly under $1,000. I can get $1000 in a private sale or consignment in a shop (minus the shop's cut). I could earn a supplemental income buying No1 at $500 and selling local at a fast $750 and do quite well on the margin.

A quick comment on 458, 338 and 270. My 2c, FWIW ...

I had a 458 and its a hand full, but; a great platform for reloading. I love this match up. It is heavy, but again, this is not a 45/70.

The 270, needs no hyp from me. Not for me, but in the OP's location, Arizona, it should be a popular and useful round. I would hope for appropriate accuracy.

The 338 is very close to a 375. Should one want to risk a brown bear hunt with A one shot, a fine choice. I honestly dont know if it would be near as popular as a 375. If it were me, I would hold out for a 375. The 338 is a little more finesse, like shooting a 6.5mm for a medium bore. Elk round maybe, 200 grain loads?

Fourbore,

I suspect that no.1 pricing is higher on the east and west coasts. Not quite sure why that is, but 1000 dollar no.1's are on the shelf forever here and never move. Some local gunshops will not even put on consignment, suspect the reasoning is a slow mover that takes up shelf space.

I only buy for my own use, donors mostly. So the caliber, age, model, or whatever is not the heavy call that it is to some. Nothing against flipping, but just not me personally, too much fun in keeping I guess.

No.1 pricing is very area specific I have found. I have never seen first hand a No.1 see for over 700 but one, and I felt like a fool for doing it in my area. It was a nice wood, 220 swift red pad with nice variable scope, that one will be hard to take apart, but depends on what calls.

One nice thing about the No.1, it can be made into about any rimfire or centerfire caliber without a monumental effort, so purchasing a 458 does not mean it has to stay a 458.

The Cabelas Gun Room will usually have 3 or 4. Sometimes you will see a real high priced one marked down to 699.00 or so.

In the 90's it was not unusual to find used NO 1's in Colorado (Boulder actually) for $500-$600 and I bought a 338 Win Mag in '96 for $550. It accounted for an elk and a three mulies. I sold this gun in the fall of 2016 for $895. Since then I have noticed that the average price for NO 1's has exceeded $1000. My local gun store has 5 NO 1's in stock with 4 in the range of $1300-$1600 and a special engraved Commemorative for $2800
