Apparently they are trying to break into eCommerce marketing now too. Besides membership promotion offers I've also been getting Photobucket emails advertising mostly non photography related goods. https://pbdeals.com/

If they were smart, they would have started charging us $10.00 per year, then raised it $5.00 a year thereafter. Instead of gradually heating the water, they brought it instantly to a rapid boil and everyone jumped out.

Photobucket is sinking in their own crapp, it seems. Almost nobody has payed them to host non-commercial private party photos for posting on forums.
They just sent me a great offer. They'll host them now for us regular little people for only $99.99/year. KMA Photosucks-it.
"photobucket offers Hello ,
We would like to offer a tailored plan for users just like you - our Premium plan for $99.99 / year.
The Premium plan will provide 3rd party hosting for non-commercial use on your forums, blogs, and personal websites*. Additionally, you will be able to store up to 300,000 photos.
We are working on some exciting changes for 2018. This is our exclusive introductory price and this offer will expire in 7 days.
Premium Plan Thank you very much for your continued support.

Downloaded all of my stuff and went elsewhere. I didn't and won't. I transferred the photos I want to keep to IMGUR and added a bunch of photos I don't care about to Photobucket. I'll leave them there until they wipe them out or fold. It costs nothing to archive them there, and it uses some of their resources at no cost to me. It's just a very small way to poke them in the eye.

I tried to save some of my better photos to my computer the other day and I couldn't. Maybe it's operator error, but it looks like they have done something to keep me from doing it the way I always have Paulbarnard: Yes, they did away with their bulk download feature. I have about 6 or 700 images there. Took me about an hour to down load them manually. Just login, start a slideshow, and as each image pops up on your screen right click it, click the save button, and whatever else follows. Maybe about 3 key strokes for each image. Once one gets the rhythm down, he can easily stay ahead of the slide show.

I have about a thousand images storex there, many of them important to me.

That model will never work when there are plenty of competitors that offer the same service for free. Kind of like charging for radio.

It took me the better part of the day but I got all of my stuff off pb and closed my account.

The amount of knowledge Photobucket has destroyed is staggering.

I'll be the odd man out.
I don't know how long I've had a Photobucket account. I've been posting pix on different websites for at least 17 years. I probably had 15,000 images on photobucket.
I've been self-employed all my life and I expect to make a profit on most every thing I do.
I expect others to make a profit.
I refuse to take something for nothing as I'm a firm believer in TANSTAAFL.
There is a cost to everything.
Why should I expect photobucket to host my 15,000 images and allow me to post to third party sites at their expense. IMHO, that would be theft on my part, and I am not a thief.
Early on I subscribed to Photobucket and paid for my storage. Consequently I've not missed a beat when it comes to posting images.
The plan I'm on I still enjoy 100 gigs of storage and will until Dec. 31 of 2018. If at that time the fee is $399 annualized, well that's just fine and dandy!
I can't believe that to a man,you guys expect something for nothing.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
End of rant.
Flame away.
ya!

^ Oh, I don't see it as something for nothing. Advertising dollars pay for it.

After replying to them stating the annual minimum was toooo high for my casual use, they sent another message telling me that IF I could not afford the annual fee, I could split it into 12 monthly fees. What a special deal.
I agree they should be profitable, but if all of a sudden they need $399 a year for my minimal usage (up from $0) to be solvent, they have a serious problem. Both in developing and conducting business .

Your point (and opinion) is valid, GWB. But it is not a situation of a product/service offered for a competitive price. It's rather an example of bait and switch. PB offered free storage and use - until they garnered a hefty portion of that market - and then ransomed the images people had stored there for a confiscatory amount. Dirty pool, in many minds.
The fact that they lost possibly 99% of their user base seems to have brought them to their sense, at least partially. But in the seven month interim, people have found other similar services that are acceptable. Why go back to a proven hustler?

Geedubya, you have it wrong about many of us, at least wrong about me. I don’t expect something for nothing and have no problem with an internet business making a profit. Had photobubba informed me that they needed to start charging for a service that had gotten too expensive to continue for free, I would have zero problem with that.
Instead they blindsided me, cutting off service with no plain English explanation and after a week or two of trying to find out what was going on I had to discover the $400 ransom fee from my own research.
Stupid, rude, needless severe damage to some web sites dependent on photos, arrogant- at this point I would pay more if needed to use any service but Photobucket.
