I know this is old news to most of you guys, but it’s new to me. After reading so many positive reports on the ruger American and currently being without a .223 I decided to give one a whirl. I picked up one of the predators, mounted some weaver medium tactical rings, and slapped on a 4-14 Burris which barely clears the barrel. Now this defintley isn’t my style of rifle, I like wood and blue and gloss scopes but I’ll be damned if the little thing doesn’t shoot. All I had was remanufactured ultramax brand 52g HP on hand, figured I’d zero it with that and use the brass to work up a load. Now I see no reason at all to reload for it because this stuff is only 27$ for 50 rounds, reckon I’ll stick with it. It repeated this several times, cold or warm barrel. Doesn’t matter, the only thing that opened the group was applying a good bit of forend pressure, and even then it didn’t open much. (Shot at 100 btw)

Looks like you got a shooter! It's nice to buy something for a bargain price that exceeds expectations.

I got the 223 the standard RAR in blued several years ago, and it shoots way the hell better than what I expected out of a $300 rifle. Like you, I grabbed a box of the Ultramax ammo to see what it would do and it shot lights out. Actually, everything I've tried has shot well.

The one I got had the flimsy fore-end, so I opened the channel up a bit. I also removed the trigger blade and dropped a lighter spring in.

The way those cheap RARs shoot make me want to buy another.

Every RAR .223 I’ve shot.... shoots the Fiocci 50 grain Vmax loads like a champ too... they’re typically $20-$25 per box of 50.

My .308 shoots like that. It almost pisses me off given how much money I have tied up in customs and semi customs.

I’ve had the same experience with 2 RARs in 243. Amazingly accurate for their cost.

Well k22, I did copy and paste the wrong link. But i thought I corrected it before anyone saw it. I was just making sure the right picture was now showing for y’all and it was the rifle and not that set of carvers

I've owned several RAR-Ps and all except the 22-250 have been MOA or better shooters with whatever factory ammo I've fed them.

OTOH, the 22-250 has been a challenge with both factory ammo and reloads.

RAR-Ps aren't all that pretty, but they offer a lot of accuracy for the price if the stocks and triggers work for you. The stocks don't work all that well for me and Boyds stocks and Timney triggers are a proportionally expensive upgrade.

The RAR Ranch Rifle in 5.56 is a great shooter, too. It's actually chambered in .223 Wylde, so it's safe to use 5.56 NATO rounds in it.

The folks at the Armijo Springs Gathering last summer will tell you how well it shoots. laugh
