I have a nice old Sako Forester in .243 with a 1-10" twist barrel.
I"m figuring on using 95gr Nosler BT's, but I'd like to try the Scenar 105gr HPBT - is the rate of twist too slow?

The 105 Scenar's going to be marginally stabilized, if it stabilizes at all, even around Reno.

85-100gr NPs, the 95gr BTs you have, 90gr ABs, 100gr Sierra PHs.
What fresh Hell is this?

Use the 90 gr AB's and 85 partitions in one of mine. In my Model 99 I'm using the 85 partitions. I've also worked a load up with the 95 gr CTBT's in a model 600. All work to put a deer down quickly. I've taken the 90 AB's out to 800 with decent results. Some where here I have a pic of a 4 shot group at 500 yards that's about 1/2" vertical and 1 3/4" horizontal. They work.

I'll echo Bbear, I like the 85gr Nosler Partition Alot. If my 243 didn't shoot the 85gr under 2/3" I would probably try the 95gr for alittle more "umph," but with that accuracy, I just aim for the shoulder and the rest is history.
I am going to toy with some 90gr Speer and 100gr Hornady RN this spring though.

1022, what’s your intended purpose?
For some long range work the 90 Scenar could be good. Also, the 87g Vmax is slippery-ish and can be launched at good speed. It’s a good medium game bullet.
1-10” is always going to be a compromise, and when you can’t get a nice super low-drag profile, extra velocity will not hurt...

Antelope is the game, and occasionally, long distance is mandatory if you want the prize.
Mine have usually been taken between 200 and 350 yards, but I had to turn down a long shot a couple of years ago because I didn't have a rangefinder and the distance appeared to be more than 400 yards.
Plus, it's such a nice, accurate rifle, I wouldn't mind doing some target shooting way, way out there!

My 1-10 twist 243 likes 85gr Partitions a lot...95gr not so much. But the best groups have been coming from 100gr Sierra GameKings. I'd have to look up the specific recipes. If I was potentially shooting game at longer ranges, I'd probably stick with the GameKings. JMO

I tend to load for deer, three different bullets considering what mood I am in at the reload bench...
1. 87 grain SP Hornady 2. 90 grain Ballistic Tip 3. 95 grain Ballistic Tip...
fourth place spot is a 90 grain Speer as I lucked out on then being on sale at a local store one day for $10 per box of 100.. bought all 5 of those.
I don't redline mine when reloading, as in the woods, why do I need a 500 yd load, to take a blacktail at 150 yds? so they are normally youth loads...
for full throttle loads, my 243 cases see a lot of 4064...using older data..

If You're into varmints, mine shoots the 55 grain nosler ballistic tips superbly.

1022- you do not say what you are shooting at. I shoot 90 grain scenars out of my sakos. if I wanted a heavier bullet for hunting I would use a 95 or 100 grain partition. I will say, out of my hart/rem700 with a 12 twist that the 88 berger and 87 hornady shoot so well I competed out to 1000 yards with it.

95 gr Nosler Ballistic tip in 1 in 10" twist barrel......bang flop twice that day.

The 70 grain BTip worked very well for us this year on 2 whitetail and 1 muley does. Busted leg with no problem. All bullets exited.

BT as varmint bullets.. Interested in hearing the particulars as to: 1. velocity 2. range of animals @ impact 3. where did you hit the animals Might be a very good deer bullet out of my 6PPC (1:12" twist) @ 3000-3200 fps..

I've killed several deer with a 6x45 shooting 70gr Nosler Ballistic tips at 3000fps. Never recovered a bullet. All were under 100 yards.
