I trust that you are a reloader and you plan to use smokeless?

I really liked Remington's 255 gr lead bullet. I loaded up five 50 cal ammo cans with them and Trail Boss. I have also used a similar bullet made locally with good results.

These are all I have reloaded for the 45 Colt, any bullet with a jacket is at top pressures and fired through a 454 Casull.

If you are interested in SASS/CAS with your 45 Colt, 200 gr cast bullets will do all that you need. My economy load is a 200 gr RNFP boosted by 6.3 gr TiteGroup. I bought an 8 lb jug of TiteGroup and have enjoyed using it in the Colt, 44-40 and 357. I started at 6.5 gr in the 45 Colt and found that I needed to lighten the powder charge. Pressures are modest, but be smart about loading for a revolver that is basically built to replicate a model that was safe with black powder. Modern steels, yeah, but ancient design. NOT like a Blackhawk.

Consult a current and reputable loading manual, start shooting and adjust your load to hit Point Of Aim as best as possible. Fixed sights are really simple, but tailor your loading for best results. Hodgdon seems to be catering to the Cowboy crowd and they have multiple suggestions for our sport. One of my friends has gone to Trail Boss and simply quit using all other powders. Seems to work for him.
