I am new to this forum, so please bear with me if I am requeting info that is already here somewhere. My dad just picked up a Savage 99 F at a show because he has always loved the look of them, but he knows little about the values/quality/collectability of the numerous variations. He asked me to search the web for info. I have learned some in the past 2 days but I do not have much if any real knowledge about this model either, I mostly know modern bolt guns. So...it is stamped Savage 99F with "D" under it, serial # 1146xxx, good blue, minor wood ding, clean crisp checkering, pistol grip, 300 savage chambering, sling studs, drilled and tapped (factory I assume). Can anyone tell me what he has and likely value. I am waiting on digital pics from him. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone tell me what the "D" stands for? And what should I look for regarding quality problems with rifles over 1 million serial number?

The "D" is just an inspectors stamp.
