PA has over 50 confirmed CWD cases so far this year. Some in captive deer, some in "wild" deer. Many of the cases in "wild" deer have occurred in areas with deer farms. Yet, no requirement for double fencing on deer farms to lessen the chance of contact..
Now have two disease management areas, had three, one has been closed out. Latest positive found in a captive deer in Lancaster County. Lots of PA's deer farmers are Amish, lots of Amish in Lancaster County. Haven't found out who the Lancaster deer farmer is yet.

If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.

So far it's never been found in Idaho. That's not saying it isn't here, it just hasn't been found yet. We have a number of high fence 'shooter bull' elk operations going. They always make me nervous. A number of years ago there was an escape in eastern ID when a bear tore down a section of fence. The governor issued a carte blanche on any ear tagged elk outside a fence in hopes of preventing them from reaching the wild herds. The elk owner threatened to sue any hunter who shot one. The hunter would have won in court but it would have cost him to defend himself. It was a legal fiasco for a while.

You also have elk that migrate to/from WY feed grounds.

PA newest case is a Mennonite owned farm. To date USFW and PA Ag are negotiating with the owner on a payout before eradicating the rest of the herd for testing. In the meantime, PGC is setting up the DMA and deciding where to place collection boxes for deer parts. The farmer will be getting a payout while the Sportsmen of PA get stuck footing the bill for at least 5 years. PGC used to have jurisdiction over deer farms but farmers complained that the PGC regulations were too restrictive and expensive so State House voted to transfer authority to PA Ag.

CWD was first discovered in high fence deer/elk operations in northern Colorado and it spread from there. High fence/deer farms should be outlawed. They're the ones spreading it around with the selling and transportation of infected animals.
