That'll work Fotis, good shooting. smile

I've been playing around with the 338-378 for near 30 years now, had an old custom built back long before anyone heard of the cool 338 Lapua, mines well into it's second 28" Shilen 10 twist stainless barrel, dusted it off the other day and went to the bench, after two sighters with a new lot of powder, I let it cool down and put four 300 gr Accubonds that left the muzzle at 2970 fps into a ragged hole at 100, sent a pic to Beretzs, the old girl still has plenty of fight left in her.

Fotis,
Seat that bullet an 1/8th turn deeper at a time and that way out there bullet, half an inch away, will likely come into the fold.

Fotis, my friend shoots the 338-378 Weatherby and I would like your comments. He won't listen to me. He got his load development off the internet.
RL 25 123 grs.
225 TSX
3500 fps
26 inch factory barrel.
I told him his load is way to hot.

It does sound hot?
The TSX's wern't available when I had mine in the early 90's , no Rel 25 back then either, but my heaviest charge of Rel 22 went 109grains for 3371fps in the 26" Hart barrel.
Because it was a wildcat back then, I don't know what throat differences there were between them.
The slowest powder I used was AR 2214 with 115 grains but that is now discontinued also.
Of all the powders I tried, I liked IMR 7828 the best as it always matched the highest velocity of the other powders but displayed no excessive pressure signs and cases lasted well in reloading.

All I can say is thank God Weatherbies are proofed to 200,000 PSI for your friend's sake.

3250 fps or so is what I would consider a normal max for the 225 grains.

There is no such thing as a free lunch~!

Have you ever shot a group under MOA with any rifle? People always talk about rifle accuracy but it takes a heck of a shooter to make it consistent.

I had one built in '95 on a Ruger #1, by a 'Smith who later on headed up Weatherby's custom shop. Soon after it came our as a standard offering. I used a load of 100 grains H4831 under a 250 Nosler. I was told that I could go to 106 grains but thought 3,000fps was enough. I made the mistake of having a brake added. The damn thing would to set off car alarms at the range.
It was accurate and powerful but just not for me.
I sold it to a friend of my Son who seems quite happy with it

I found that increasing barrel length from 26.8" to 31" added about 200 fps. Mine gave me the full amount of recoil that I paid for.
