I recently purchased a 30/30 F that belonged to a campfire member. I am in need of a staple and ring for it. Have located a supplier for an aftermarket staple but not the ring. Could someone supply me with some measurements from an original so I could make a ring. This is a latter 1917 model. Would like the rod diameter used to make the ring and inside diameter of the formed ring. Also is the ring welded together or left open. Thanks in advance. Jim If someone has an original staple and ring they would sell, that would be even better.

Inside diameter is .775" and thickness of the ring is .155", just measured the one on my 25-35.
Oh ya, left open, not welded.

Thanks Rory, which set of measurements does this one have? Heck if I know, I haven't measured it yet. If I get around to digging in the safe this weekend, I'll pull it out and measure it. When you get your staple in, let us know how it works. Some of us are in need of replacement staples also.

I have 2 staples on order so would like to round up material to build a ring. Thanks

Some time back (probably many years...time flies) we collected data on ring sizes on carbines over the full serial range of production. What I can remember (can't find the data) was that:
- there was a big difference in wire thickness -that Winchester replacement rings were over sized -the later production rings were thin -rings were not welded.
I have two carbines made in 1917. The rings both measure in the area of .940"x.995"x ,.125" wire thickness. The ring is slightly oval with the joint being at the smallest diameter. Both rings are made the same.
Where did you get the studs and do they look like the originals?
If someone could make a run of studs and rings I'm sure we could sell a bunch if price was realistic.
PS...would a 16D nail work? .165"x 3.5"

I don't think an 8D is long enough.

Sorry for the delay in answering Rick, yes they made more, got two in the mail a few days back and just installed one a few minutes ago. I had taken pictures when I got them and they are in my file but damned if I can load them into this thread. In fact I can't even find my picture file now.
