You gotta understand. Gunner is sort of a renaissance man, known to revert back in time, on occasion as far back as the 1800’s. He likes big fire belching Sharps and such. Fire and brimstone sort of a guy.
So, you can’t hit him too hard with cold logic...😀
DF Thats right, and if JWP will carry his 45 Colt sixgun loaded with red tip pointy Hornady bullets to a hunting camp I'll eat my hat.............................and saddle

Still copper and lead my friend! Still “newfangled” as is the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. Partition is from about 1940, cup and core way before that the overs come sometime close to the eighties including the Barnes X

I know, but it did cause me some serious pondering, I dont believe, old or newfangled, across the caliber and bullet weight spectrum, ANY expanding soft nosed hunting bullet can match what i just did with the old Mighty 50-90 Sharps rifle and blackpowder. It would take one hell of a combo to match it, I cant think of one, can You?

Fine round, just like a bunch of others.
It's about the rifle, not the cartridge. Yep. FINE rifle. I have a 6mm Rem & 6.5X55 so the 257 doesn't accomplish anything for me--> NO criticism ! Jerry

Would have to squeeze her down 5 thou first, but maybe, how about the 350 gr TTSX from your 416?
I know the 750 gr TSX from my 577 Nitro at 2070 fps wont do it.

I know the 750 gr TSX from my 577 Nitro at 2070 fps wont do it. The 350 TSX penetrates well but I don’t know if it would match the 750 for penetration in the sharps or not. The two grain TSX in the 505 Gibbs run at 2500 FOS would be bad azzed and it might do it.

Yup, have no doubt the CE cup nosed 600 gr solid from the Gibbs would do it, kinda like an expanding solid if you will. We better high tail it, I've done jacked Jorge's thread up like a basket of soup sammiches.

My best load with the 115 Partition's is Mule Deer's "loads that work" 48.0 grs. RL 22. I want to work up a new trial with RL 23 and/or RL 26 for improved temp stability but in FL Jorge you can rock on with the RL 22! I have used the 100 TTSX with great results with IMR or H 4350. I plan to try Dirtfarmer's magical laod with the Hybrid 100V. What is it about this caliber??? I was talking with Eddie Fosnaugh yesterday and now I have a Bartlein # 0 contour in route from Butch's in NM for a new .257 build. I guess they are like Lay's poatatoe chips you can't stop with one!

IMO, you can scratch RL-26 off your list. I tried RL-26 with 120 NPT bullets on my custom .257R. Bad group and dirty. After several rounds, I couldn’t chamber a round. After a 4 wheeler ride back to the shop, rounds easily chambered. I think powder granule(s) fell out of the chamber; these were neck sized loads. DF
