Ig you already got a 30-06, then 243 oughta be an option.

Ok so looking at the gun shops and stores I can only find 6.5 creed and 270. So I bought the only 270 they had and I got some 130gr ammo. What grain would be the best for what I’m trying to accomplish? One weight for hunting up to elk and punching paper to learn longer ranges

You would have to go out of your way to find a bullet that wouldn't work well in the 270 for the application you have mentioned. Find a bullet your rifle likes and fill your freezer.

It’d be hard to Trump a 308 for a factory Fed do all big game rifle.

Tikkas get much love. Though $900 could land you in a Howa, 70, or 700 with a great stock. I like the Bergara rifles as well. If you wanted an ultra light, that’s used Kimber Montana range.

Pretty hard to go wrong with the .270 Win. The only thing bad about your purchase is you’ll probably never use your .30-06 very much, if at all.

If I was going to have just three rifles, I’d want to have rather significant niches and applications for each of them. You’re basically still at two rifles application-wise.

ADDING: Just find a good hunting bullet your new rifle likes in anything from 130-150 grains and run with it. Any of those sizes will kill anything you’ll ever need killed.

What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

lunchbox, #1 thru #6 “perfectly” described my wife’s “only” hunting rifle.....though it failed on #7! Factory ammo will be a bit pricey, also. She has taken most everything from, antelope thru moose, at ranges from less than thirty yards to a measured 400, almost all have been one shot kills. One caliber, one bullet, one zero ( 300 yards - approx 5 1/2” high at 170, approx. 9” low at 400) .....for everything! A day at the range would probably be under 30 rounds - unless you use a PAST recoil shield ( or similar)! memtb
