I'm looking to add to my '99 shooters and trying to decide on whether I want a 22 HP or a 250-3000 next. I've got a 303, a 30-30, a 300 savage and a 243. All are good shooters. I'm leaning towards the 22 HP but I am concerned about the reloading aspect. I reload all the others to my 100 yard satisfaction and I don't really hunt, maybe 1 or 2 times a year, mostly shoot paper for the hell of it. What would be your advice? Just want the other Savage calibers, so what would be the most fun?

I'd get the .250-3000 first and move the 22HP down the list. Much easier to load for since brass and bullets are in supply. 22HP brass and bullets are both hard to find.

I respect light foots insight immensely.
But what is the Ballistic difference between a 250/3000 and the 243 you already own for target shooting?
What does a 22 hp bring to the table?.... the others do not have?

In this day and age the HP is a bit more advanced in requiring your time, attention and acquisition of components. Though it does seem to be enjoying a degree of popularity at the moment on this forum so you will find plenty of help and support here. If for paper punching, then my perspective could be different. Get the 99 that's the rarest bird for you and be done with that problem.

Given the calibers you have accumulated and that you are a reloader, I think you will own both before long. Watch for both. Buy the best you can in your price range or in the model/style you are interested in. Enjoy!

The .22 HP is no harder to load for than any other cartridge. I will acquiesce to the bullets being hard to find, but brass is easy; just run a .25-35 case into the sizing die and Bob's your uncle, a HP case. .25-35's are pretty common once again.

.250 Savage is one of my most accurate rifles, and mine was re-bored from a 22 Hi Power back sometime in the 50s! If you go the 22 HP route, and don't want to make your own brass, there is a sale for Norma brass right now. Still some in stock. https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....52-r-unprimed-brass-rifle-brass-25-count

Just want the other Savage calibers, so what would be the most fun? I remember back in 2011 I was faced with that very same predicament. I had a 30-30 T in near mint shape and a .303 Speigle Special (aka salesman sample) both for $1500 each and I couldn't decide. A couple other members here goaded me and kept saying "buy 'em both". SO I DID. I'm tellin' ya. You only live once. Buy both of them and don't look back. Since that day, I've bought 3 and 4 at a time.

Buy both and be done with it. I can't believe Gary didn't tell you to start casting for the HP. For punching paper you don't need smokin loads.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

Time and place for everything, Joe! I preached about cast bullets 'til I was blue in the face. Now I'll just quietly sit in the corner. Look at the .22HP this way: you'll be the only kid on the block with one, and will get a lot of puzzled looks from the hoi poloi at the gun range!

I have a 22HP that I'm waiting to see and am pre-comitted to it from a private collection, but the 250-3000, is much harder to find and I've been looking throughout NY state. Availability and location make it difficult to buy what I want first. I watch the gun auctions for the 250, but they are hard to actually see before buying. i'm not looking for collector quality, just a good shooter class gun. I'm a little gun-shy, pardon the pun, about buying on from out of state.
