I am wrapping up plans to go on a caribou hunt this fall. I have a 270WSM, 6.5 and a Tikka 7Mag I could take, but feel teh itch for a new gun. I am looking for some ideas.

I am thinking of teh following:

a 300WSM in a Tikka and have Rick do a custom paint job on it

Buy a McMillan for the tikka 7-mag. The gun basically new and is currently stainless/laminate, Good shooter, I just do not use it much on the local deer.

Trade the tikka 7Mag for a Kimber 300wsm, 325WSM.

My preference is a new gun and rick's paint, but I always like to think about my options. Any input is appreciated.

Hi Kyfred
Great choice of calibers there. I recently bought a Kimber 300WSM. At the store where I bought it I also seen a Kimber 325WSM and it was beautiful. Problem was they had no brass or store bought ammo for it. Theres was plenty of 300 & 7mm and 270Wsm on the shelves. Thats why I stayed away from it and on several other forums I heard the same problem about getting brass for it. I would check for a brass supply before getting into a 325WSM.

Where me, I would bring a cooper 7-08 model 22. A friend of mine @ sundog returned from his bou trip. For diff. reasons, his fellow partners had problems w/ their rigs (ammo in travel?) and ended up using his cooper for their tags also.

From experience I would not suggest an ultra-light (kimber) in windy or rainy conditions. Talking about me here.

Better yet, call Mickey C. and have him put together a 7-08...#4 contour 20 or 22" douglas premium...have Rick custom paint a mcm edge or mcm rem swirly stock...trued up sucks or save some $ using a Howa action trued by Mickey. Short, stiff, handy, and bugholes.
