I had a .284. Loved the looks and handling qualities (as far as autos go) but it was the most inaccurate mo fo I have ever shot. I think you'd have had a hard time commiting suicide with it....

I picked up a nice 1965 model .308 100 yesterday. Pretty nice shape except......The previous owner took it apart. lol I love buying kit guns. after reassembly, and test firing. I took it out to the pasture to see if I could christen it with a doe but no deer showed up to the christening party. Oh, well maybe tomorrow. I love 100s. I wanted one after looking at a 1968 Guns Digest and liked the basketweave pattern stock. Who cares if they only shoot 2-5" groups at 100 yards as long as it looks cool doing it. Most deer I've killed in Georgia have been under 50 yards.

I got a 284 I need to refinish and work up handloads. I bought here on the campfire. It sighted in real easy and seemed to group well with the ammo it came with. Like 348 said

I had an early M100 .308 carbine that worked well enough when it was clean. The mushy trigger and the fat grip I didn't like much, but it shot well enough for my deer hunting. The gunsmith worked over the trigger and then it doubled which got a lot of attention on the range. A buddy sold me an early Tootsie Roll fore end M742 carbine and I liked that one a little more than the M100. The worst jammer was dad's 1968 Browning BAR with the single ejector. All those rifles are gone now thankfully having seen the error in my ways of not shooting a quality bolt action.
My other auto is a .45
The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory

I have a couple 284s one pre and one post 64. The post always functioned fine. I got the pre 64 from a gunsmith for 400 dollars because he couldnt get it to feed right. I changed out the 2 peice recoil spring to a new 1 peice stronger spring and polished the chamber and havent had a problem since.

Cherryfarmer-where did you get the 1 piece spring from for the 284? I've had most everything possible changed out on mine and had the chamber polished and it still won't eject the spent casing. Thanks! Eddie
