It's amazing how many people are clueless as to the information that one can gather about anyone on the internet. Use a VPN to cover your IP address. Never save passwords on your browser. Block cookies. Use an encrypted email. Anything is better than nothing.

I know I'm guilty but I'd imagine everybody that connects to the world wide web has at some time willingly accepted the extensive "Terms of Use" agreements which few ever read at all let alone in it's entirety and even fewer would fully understand what all they agreed to even if they did.

So does Amazon, Google, my ISP and a bunch of others I'm sure. But I'm asking myself, "So what?" I guess I value my privacy more than some folks. Ed The fact that I searched LED bulbs a few months ago and Google shows directed ads to LED sellers doesn't bother me. From my profile of collected data they may infer that I like techie sites and don't buy much on line and have occasional bouts of insomnia. Big deal. Anything more private goes encrypted or to a secured link (your browser should have an icon that shows that). Just have the attitude that anything that goes over the Internet unsecured may as well be posted on the grocery store bulletin board. Facebook specifically, that I have a lot of relatives who post pictures of their kids and natter about trivial matters and that (because of that) I pretty much ignore Facebook.
