Great thread! I thought I'd bump it back up with a picture of one of my 1911's. This is a Colt MK IV/Series '70 Government Model 45 that has had the barrel cut back to 4'' and a Pachmayr Signature custom job done on it. This gun was completed in November of 1973. The group shown as the final group measures a few thousands of an inch over one half inch and is 5 shots at 25 yards from a Ransom Rest. Not bad for a 4 inch barrel custom job done in 1973.

Close friend who died a few years ago was friends with the exhibition shooter Ernie Lind. He had about a half dozen of Ernie's guns in his collection. One day when I was visiting with a friend, he gave us the gun and said to go shoot it as he wanted to make sure that it worked. Have no clue who built the gun but the slide was like on roller bearings. The engraving was done in Germany.
