I'm not an AR guy. Most of the AR's I've scoped have been with smaller glass. About to put a bigger scope on a heavy/varmint AR and I'd appreciate input on mounts. Scope is long and about 28oz's (30mm). I like to have rings as close to the ends of the main tube as possible for strength....which is why I'm asking....most AR specific mounts are spaced close. Using rings only may be limiting on how far forward it can be mounted.
Advise welcome from those with experience mounting big scopes on AR's.

JP makes a nice mount with good spacing as does Badger Ordnance. If you don't mind spending a little more, there's Geissele, Nightforce, and SPUHR mounts. Any of those will be plenty strong enough.

I'd almost suggest an extended riser and use rings where you see fit but I've been happy with the one piece mounts and don't worry about ring spacing. Though my heaviest scope is a super chicken at 19 oz. I tend to stay away from the power selector.

Warne makes some hell for stout mounts.

Geissele Super Precision mount would be my choice, unless you're going with a riser and standard ring system.

Geissele makes a very good mount GeisseleI have the 1.450 tall mount with 10 minutes elevation built in. It was a little tall for me service rifle. If you are interested in it send me a PM, I will make a good deal on it.

I had one on my AR with a NF 3,5-15x50F1... Until it broke. One ring cracked clean through. Was torqued to specs. Sometimes the metal just isn't as strong as they think it is.
