Sorry to hear this. I was at the dermatologist yesterday for my semi-annual checkup. Had two places frozen, and have to go back in 6 weeks to have them check it again, and possibly do a biopsy on it. Never gave it a second thought all those years I'd be working outside and pull my shirt off, although most of my places are where the "farmers tan" is. Skin cancer can be a mean booger.

My brother got all the girls while growing up. But he had a small bald spot on his head, where no hair would ever grow, about the size of a quarter. He was vain about his appearance , and that vanity may have saved his life. He kept asking his doctor about methods of growing hair, transplants, ect, until he was sent to a specialist. That specialist found something suspicious, and sent him to another specialist who realized what that bald spot really was (a form of cancer that can lay dormant or spread very quickly.)
It was discovered on a Tuesday, and cut out by Thursday of the same week. The bald spot was reduces to the size of a dime in the process. He had had it for several years. It was tested after removal. Benign.

Sorry for your loss sir. Knee-mail outbound.

Edit: ironicly, his zodiac sign is CANCER.

Sorry to hear this, condolences to you

I have to get myself back to the dermo, been a sun junky and roof monkey for too many years. I was always "that guy" that went into every store without a shirt on. White boy that looked like I was from Calcutta.
So far just had small benigners froze off

My condolences also.

Last summer I had an upper body checkup. They did a biopsy on a spot on my arm that was nothing. They found a squamous cell cancer in my ear. They were able to remove it easily. Melanoma is far more serious, though.

I felt an odd squishy lump on the back of my neck. Felt like a blister. Claudia said it was dark red. Our family doctor removed it as a precaution and sent it in. Turned out to be a melanoma and he sent me to a specialist immediately. The skin doc did some more excavation. That was in August of 2016

Then he said, "If you had ignored this until Christmas, I'd have been advising you to make a will."

Since then, I've developed a carcinoma and had that plus several pre-cancerous spots frozen or removed. I'm now down from skin checks every six weeks to every six months, and that will continue indefinitely. By the way, Utah has the highest rate of skin cancer of any state. They think it's a combination of the high altitude and lots of outdoor sports. I suspect mine was from high altitude in a jet. The only place on me not covered was the back of my neck, and that bubble canopy let in a lot of strong sunlight.

Tom,

You and your family have my sincere condolences and my prayers.

My Mom died of Melanoma.

Rocky, and anyone else here who has skin cancer, get yourself to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. They are the ones who developed the immunotherapy for Melanoma and the care at that hospital has to be seen to be believed. It is like no other medical facility I've ever been in.

Tragic! Prayers offered.

Some years ago I read about a big increase in skin cancer in farmers. It started when chemical companies started handing out free ball caps. Farmers quit wearing broad brimmed hats and the ear and neck cancers skyrocketed.

can't endorse this enough! also there is a specialist there that discovered the mutated gene that determines your ability to fight off cancer with your own immune system. Both my niece and her mother have/had that mutated gene. My sister in law, Krista's mother, has been battling one type or the other of cancer for 20 years.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and you have my condolences..

My wife is a women's cancer nurse - and just a few days ago told me about two of her surgeon's patients that died; and both were under 45 years old.. I don't know how she does her job some days, but she's been on that job for over 30 years..
