I have a friend with a 270, and he wants me to reload it for long range. I suggested he swap barrels to a 280, but that's not happening. Ideas? Is it this? He has a 1 in 10" Rate of twist, so this might not work. http://www.bergerbullets.com/introducing-the-berger-270-caliber-170-grain-eol-elite-hunter/Which probably means this? https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/270-cal-.277-145-gr-eld-x#!/

Don't know if it is quite the highest... but my 24" 270win will spit the 145 ELDX into nice groups at 3075 fps. with a BC of .536. I believe that meets or beats where a 280AI might be shooting 160 ABs.
Berger's 170gr EOL VLD is higher... but not sure how fast it'll run in a 270win. and you probably wouldn't see any advantage at hunting ranges.

Nosler's .270 LRAB 150g is listed at .625 BC

True. Litz tested the 150 LRAB to be .543 in 10twists and .569 in 7 twists. So, I guess it is up to how fast you can push the 150 in a 10 twister vs the 145

magshooter1,
Actually, Nosler recently had the BC's of the ABLR's tested with Doppler radar and revised them. The 150's G1 BC is now listed as .591, G7 as .298.

David,
The 170 Berger stabilizes in a 1-10 twist in my part of Montana, but it might not in your area. Both the Hornady and Nosler are designed for 10 twists.

145 ELD with RL 26 gives the .243AI a run for it's money. Fwiw.

This is real data from my 243 AI matched with Hornady's Precision Hunter 270 145 ELD load. What velocities are you getting with RL26?

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Hand load 145eld IMR 4831- 59 grains cci 250 Norma brass. Out of a 24”. Only getting 2875fps it shoots in the .4’s. RL 26 or RL 23 depending on the gun would be a better powder choice.
Oh and Dave the gopher trip is on hold this spring. I snagged a really good spring bear hunt so I’m dumping my efforts up on the boarder. Next time I’m down your way that beer still stands.

High heels,
I take it from your reply you’re lying again?
You’ve never loaded a 145 ELD close to the a 243 AI?
Thought so.
Do you use a handle instead of your real name because you don’t want people to know what a Royal dumb [bleep] you are?

This little sweetie throws twins every year. And thinks bedding in front of my 100 yard line is required.
